  • Patent number: 7761681
Abstract: A storage adapter for use in a data storage subsystem includes a controlling processor, a volatile memory, and a nonvolatile memory “dump device.” The storage adapter also includes a battery that can be used to provide sufficient power to the storage adapter to allow data from the volatile memory to be written to the nonvolatile memory of the storage adapter under the control of the processor in the event of an interruption or failure in the main power supply to the storage adapter, i.e. to preserve data stored in the volatile memory in that event. The processor uses the current state of charge of the battery to determine the amount of data that can be “dumped” to the nonvolatile dump device before the battery is depleted.

  • Patent number: 7240272
Abstract: A method of storing data in a memory device is disclosed. The method comprises dividing data to be stored in a memory device into one or more data segments; storing the one or more data segments in the memory device; for a particular data segment among the one or more data segments, creating an error detection code; storing the error detection code in the memory device; for the particular data segment, determining an error correction segment that is a logical combination of the particular data segment with a second data segment, wherein the error correction can be used to reconstruct the particular data segment; and storing the error correction segment in the memory device.

  • Patent number: 6926994
Abstract: A battery mounting (100) is provided for detachable placement in a device. The battery mounting (100) comprises a housing (104) for at least one battery cell (102), a clip (116) having a cammed surface (118) for cooperation with between the housing (104) and a portion of the device, a lock (130) with a-means for applying a force to the chip (116) for locking the battery mounting (100) in place in the device, and at least one power contact (138, 140) for connecting the at least one battery cell (102) to the device. The lock (138) provides a load in the engaging direction of the at least one power contact (138, 140).

  • Publication number: 20040026587
Abstract: A battery mounting (100) is provided for use in a device from which the battery mounting (100) is detachable. The device has a board (101) with an opening (112) in which the battery mounting (100) is placeable and at least one power contact (138, 140) disposed on the cross-section of the board within the opening (112). The battery mounting (100) has a housing (104) for one or more battery cells (102). The battery mounting (100) also has a clip (116) having a cammed surface (118) for cooperation with a portion of the board (101) and a lock (130) with a means for applying a force to the clip (116) for locking the battery mounting (100) in place in the opening (112). The battery mounting (100) also has at least one power contact (132, 134) for connecting the battery cells (102) to the at least one power contact (138, 140) on the board (101), wherein the lock (130) provides a load in the engaging direction of the contacts (132, 134, 138, 140).
