  • Publication number: 20100262009
Abstract: An ultrasonic pulse echo apparatus detects an object that is moving with respect to stationary objects. An ultrasonic transducer transmits a series of ultrasound pulses in a direction that intersects a path of the moving object. An ultrasound receiver receives a series of lines of echoes from objects in the field of view of the ultrasonic signal. Each echo line corresponds to one of the ultrasonic pulses. A signal processor processes the echo lines from the moving object. The echo lines are time shifted by different amounts and combined at different time shifts to produce different composite lines. The composite line having an optimal signal-to-noise ratio is selected. Other signal processing enhancements are performed.

  • Publication number: 20100209563
Abstract: A frozen beverage containing dissolvable substances. The frozen beverage is frozen solid, forming chambers for liquid to touch pertaining walls. The addition of liquid in these pathways causes the dissolvable substances to dissolve. This dissolving separates the particles in the frozen substance, leaving the high melting point substances to remain frozen. The frozen beverage may be mixed by hand or by mechanical means after separation.

  • Patent number: 7761904
Abstract: A removable, wireless, cryptographic ignition key (CIK) provides a user the capability to conduct secure operations utilizing a processor as long as the CIK is within the vicinity of the processor. This removable CIK may be utilized in applications related to conducting secure operations on desktop computers, laptop computers, wireless telephones, handheld radios (e.g., military radios requiring secure communications), and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Secure operations are enabled upon insertion and removal of the CIK into/from the processor. If a predetermined proximity between the removable CIK and the processor is exceeded (e.g., the user leaves the room, the user puts the processor on a moving belt on an X-ray machine at the airport, the processor is stolen), secure operations are disabled. Secure operations may be resumed, upon the CIK being inserted and removed into/from the processor again.

  • Patent number: 7761681
Abstract: A storage adapter for use in a data storage subsystem includes a controlling processor, a volatile memory, and a nonvolatile memory “dump device.” The storage adapter also includes a battery that can be used to provide sufficient power to the storage adapter to allow data from the volatile memory to be written to the nonvolatile memory of the storage adapter under the control of the processor in the event of an interruption or failure in the main power supply to the storage adapter, i.e. to preserve data stored in the volatile memory in that event. The processor uses the current state of charge of the battery to determine the amount of data that can be “dumped” to the nonvolatile dump device before the battery is depleted.

  • Publication number: 20100148093
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and apparatus for covert illumination. The method involves illuminating the scene with light which is tuned to an absorption resonances of atmospheric oxygen gas. Light tuned to have a wavelength corresponding to an oxygen absorption wavelength travelling through the atmosphere is therefore attenuated by absorption. The method therefore teaches that a low power illumination source can be used to illuminate nearby objects, thus allowing the detail thereof to be resolved, and the illuminating light reflected from the object, or even the light source itself, will be undetectable beyond a certain range due to atmospheric absorption. The illumination may be used in conjunction with the use of low light level imagers to image a scene. Alternatively the illumination could be used for short range optical communication which will be undetectable at much longer range.
