  • Publication number: 20220117488
Abstract: A platform for hermetic heterogeneous integration of passive and active electronic components is provided herein. The platform can include a substrate that provides a hermetic electrical interconnection between integrated circuits and passive devices, such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Such substrates can be formed of a dielectric, such as a ceramic, and include electrical interconnects and can further include one or more passive devices. The substrate can include one or more cavities, at least a primary cavity dimensioned to receive an active device and one or more secondary cavities can be included for secondary connector pads for interfacing with the active and passive devices and which can be separately hermetically sealed. The substrate can include a multi-coil inductor defined within alternating layers of the substrate within sidewalls that surround the primary cavity to minimize size of the device package while optimizing the size of the coil.

  • Patent number: 8006694
Abstract: A respiratory etiquette device in the form of a mask that can be held in a compacted configuration within the pocket or purse of a user. When released, the mask springs open to its erected configuration and can be quickly placed over the mouth and nose of a wearer to contain a cough or sneeze. Rapid springing open of the mask is achieved by using a plastic core having an array of external bubbles that rapidly regain their shape when the mask is released, thereby forcing the entire mask into its fully erected configuration.

  • Publication number: 20060254591
Abstract: A method of preventing or limiting the spread of germs which involves providing a mask that can adopt an erected operative configuration and a compacted configuration in which the mask can be accommodated in a pocket or purse of a user. When released, the mask springs open to its erected configuration and can be placed over the mouth and nose of the wearer to prevent outward expulsion of material during a cough or sneeze. The mask includes an opening for releasing excess air from within the mask, the opening being closed by a filter. The filter is designed to retain inside the mask, germs normally expelled during a sneeze or cough.

  • Publication number: 20060109483
Abstract: A system for the measurement of high aspect ratio trenches. The preferred embodiment consists of three elements: a) an integrated microscope and optical height sensor, b) an axially dispersive, afocal lens system, which is included in the optical height sensor, and c) an algorithm for processing the optical height sensor data to produce the depth of the high aspect ratio trench. The present invention combines a traditional imaging microscope with a chromatic confocal, single point, height sensor. This combination instantaneously provides an image of the object and the height value at one point in the image. No mechanical movement is necessary anywhere in the system to achieve that result. The chromatic confocal height sensor is integrated with a traditional microscope through the use of separate wavelength bands such as a wavelength band in the visible part of the spectrum, and a wavelength band in the infrared or ultraviolet part of the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 6086623
Abstract: A current operating system such as Solaris.RTM. X86 is adapted to run a user program such as a Common Object File Format (COFF) executable program which was designed to run on a retrograde operating system such as an older version of UNIX.RTM.. The operating system is adapted to include an emulator module or COFF interpreter which emulates retrograde system calls that are unique to the COFF system. A Local Descriptor Table (LDT) which is constructed for the COFF program includes a main system call gate and an alternate system call gate that initially both point to a system call entry point in the operating system kernel. Prior to running a COFF program, the main system call gate is revectored to point to the COFF interpreter, such that all system calls generated by the COFF program are directed to the COFF interpreter. The COFF interpreter redirects current system calls which are compatible with the current operating system to the kernel via the alternate call gate.

  • Patent number: 5880838
Abstract: A system and method for measuring the dimensions of a small (e.g., microelectronic) structure. The present invention is an optical system and method that uses a polarized light beam, reflected off or transmitted through, a structure, to measure the structural parameters, such as the lateral dimensions, vertical dimensions, height, or the type of structural material. The system employs a light source to generate a light beam that is polarized and focused onto the structure to be measured. The structure is illuminated with TE and TM polarized light. The structure is dimensioned such that the TM and TE fields are affected differently by the diffraction off the structure. As a result, either the TE or TM field can be used as a reference to analyze the phase and amplitude changes in the other field. Differences between the diffracted TE and TM far fields allow a comparison of the relationship between the amplitude and phase of those fields to determine the structural parameters of a structure.

  • Patent number: 5453969
Abstract: An optical storage medium constitutes a substrate imprinted with optically detectable pits, each of the pits having one of a set of predetermined pit depths, each of the pits representing a number of binary bits corresponding to the number of the predetermined pit depths in the set. The pit depth is sensed unambiguously with a conoscopic holography sensor by changing the polarization of a polarized reflected beam in accordance with its angle of propagation and sensing an intensity pattern produced after the reflected beam passes through a polarized analyzer. Alternatively, using a confocal microscopy sensor, light from either the deepest or most shallow pit depth is focused on a small pin hole in an opaque surface, and a single detector measures the light intensity on the other side of the pin hole, the light intensity being a direct measure of the pit depth.
