  • Patent number: 12633853
Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an electric drive system for an electric or hybrid vehicle is described. In one example, an angle error between an electric machine rotor reference position and an electric machine position sensor reference position is estimated when high voltage is present and when zero torque is commanded of the electric machine.

    Filed: January 16, 2024
Date of Patent: May 19, 2026
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC

  • Patent number: 12337823
Abstract: A controller, while a motor is deactivated and a corresponding inverter is disabled, enables an engine for propulsion of a vehicle such that the motor rotates at a speed due to the propulsion, and commands variable voltage control circuitry to generate a target input voltage for the inverter that is based on a speed limit for the vehicle such that the speed of the motor corresponding to the vehicle travelling results in zero braking torque from the motor and zero charging current flow to a traction battery.

  • Patent number: 7809491
Abstract: A control scheme is disclosed for performing both an adaption routine and carbon canister purging. In adaption, parameters for estimating air-fuel ratio from flow sensors and actuators are adjusted against an air-fuel ratio under closed-loop control using an EGO sensor. The two processes cannot run simultaneously. In vehicles in which the engine is operating from the time of key on until key off, the adaption occurs shortly after starting and then periodically thereafter. In vehicles in which the engine is turned on and off frequently such as with HEVs, the adaption routine may be run every time the engine is turned on, which is more frequent than necessary and doesn't allow enough time for purging. According to the disclosed control scheme, the time since last adaption and time in adaption is saved when the engine is turned off so that the adaption routine is conducted only when needed.
