  • Publication number: 20130083311
Abstract: Described herein in several embodiments are a system, method and apparatus for measuring platelet thrombus volume of a blood sample. In some embodiments, the present invention comprises a microfluidic apparatus having a blood input that receives the blood sample and a plurality of flow channels. In some embodiments of the present invention, each flow channel has a non-stenotic region that receives a portion of the blood sample from the blood input and a stenotic region for creating a discrete initial shear rate in the flow channel. The initial shear rate in the flow channel can be from approximately 500 s?1 to approximately 13000 s?1. The stenotic region, or a narrowing or stricture of the flow channel passageway, is used to simulate a partial blockage of a blood vessel that can result in thrombosis within the blood vessel.

  • Patent number: 8398687
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments describe a volar plate generally for use treating distal volar fractures. The volar plate is designed in accordance with anatomical features and is generally Y-shaped, having a wider distal head portion that tapers to a narrower proximal body portion. A plurality of holes in the distal head of the volar plate allow for fixation means to fix the position of bone fragments with respect to the volar plate. The plurality of holes in the distal head basically form two substantially non-linear rows, with the distal row generally curving inward proximally and the proximal row generally curving outward distally such that the fixation means inserted through the holes generally converge. A central cavity may be located in the proximal body of the volar plate to promote bone growth, and mounting screws may border the central cavity on either side to provide secure support. Additionally, K-wire holes may be included which are visually linked to corresponding holes in the distal head.

  • Publication number: 20130037994
Abstract: A method of shortening cycle time required to compression mold shingle or tile is provided, wherein carrier plates are comprised of a surface material and a base, and receive a thermoplastic material, thereon. The roofing material is applied to the carrier plate and the carrier plate is subjected to induction heating, by which its surface material has its temperature raised, without substantially raising the temperature of the carrier plate base, such that the thermoplastic material applied thereto is kept heated in the compression mold. Cooling of the thermoplastic material is by heat transfer from the carrier plate surface material to the carrier plate base, and with both materials having good heat conduction capability. The carrier plate surface material has a high receptivity to being heated by induction heating relative the carrier plate base. The carrier plates are serially delivered through the process, to the compression mold.

  • Publication number: 20130036718
Abstract: Air cleaner assemblies and components therefor are described. An example first or main filter cartridge is described which includes a media pack comprising strips of fluted material secured to facing sheets, oriented in a stack. The media pack defines opposite inlet and outlet flow faces, with flutes extending in a direction therebetween. The media pack is non-removably secured within a filter cartridge housing, at a location between opposite sections of a shell, typically secured thereto with an adhesive. The shell also defines a closed end, spaced from, but in overlap with, the outlet end face of the media pack. The closed end is typically curved and the shell typically provides either a d/b-shape or a u-shape.

  • Publication number: 20130033291
Abstract: A switch circuit can include an impedance selection switch and a multi-output-resistance switch driver. The impedance selection switch can electrically connect an impedance to an input of an amplifier in response to a driver output signal, and include at least one transistor. The multi-output-impedance switch driver may provide the driver output signal to the switch, and have a first, relatively higher output resistance when providing a first logic state of the driver output signal to turn on the switch, and a second, relatively lower output resistance when providing a second logic state of the driver output signal to turn off the switch. The ratio of the first output resistance to the second output resistance can be greater than a selected predetermined ratio value.

  • Publication number: 20110221764
Abstract: A layout definition file is created that stores data defining image layouts. An application program provides a user interface for laying out images and associated text using the contents of a layout definition file. The user interface includes a canvas onto which a user may place one or more images and a layout gallery through which a user may select a pre-defined layout. The layout gallery includes selectable visual representations corresponding to the pre-defined layouts. When one of the visual representations is selected, the corresponding pre-defined layout is applied to images on the canvas. Alternatively, one of the visual representations may be selected to cause placeholders for images and text in the corresponding pre-defined layout to be placed on the canvas. Images and text can be added to the layout by using the placeholders. Mechanisms are also provided for cropping images for use in a pre-defined layout.

  • Publication number: 20110225548
Abstract: This disclosure describes a user interface and methods for quickly and easily modifying graphical content. Specifically, content having a hierarchical format may be received in a content pane. The hierarchical format may include one or more hierarchical levels and a plurality of content portions occupying one or more hierarchical positions within each of the one or more hierarchical levels. Further, a graphical definition may be applied to the content creating graphical content. As will be appreciated, the graphical content may comprise a hierarchical structure corresponding to the hierarchical format of the content. The hierarchical structure may include a plurality of nodes occupying one or more node positions within each of one or more node levels. A content portion occupying a hierarchical position may be reordered within a hierarchical level and may automatically cause a corresponding node in a corresponding node position to be reordered within a corresponding node level.
