  • Publication number: 20250102808
Abstract: A waveguide for use in a virtual reality, VR, or augmented reality, AR, device, is disclosed. The waveguide comprising an input region configured to couple light into the waveguide so that it propagates under total internal reflection (TIR) within the waveguide, and an output region comprising optical structures configured to receive image bearing light from the input region. The output region comprises a plurality of zones having different diffraction to each other, the plurality of zones comprising diffraction efficiencies so as to reduce rainbow artefacts.

  • Publication number: 20220299778
Abstract: An encapsulated waveguide system for a near eye optical display includes a first outer layer, a second outer layer, at least one waveguide substrate comprising an input area and an output area, a first spacer and a sealing element. The at least one waveguide substrate is disposed between the first and second outer layers and spaced therefrom by the first spacer. The sealing element joins edges of the first and second outer layers so as to encapsulate the at least one waveguide substrate within a cavity formed by the first and second outer layers. The formed cavity includes a first cavity between the at least one waveguide substrate and the first outer layer and a second cavity between the at least one waveguide substrate and the second outer layer.

  • Publication number: 20130141690
Abstract: An optical apparatus (1) for wearing by a human user comprises one or more variable power lenses (4), means (10) for adjusting the power of the variable power lens (4), means (26) for capturing data representative of said adjustments, and means (28) for recording or transmitting the captured data.

  • Patent number: 8384999
Abstract: An optical module for head mounted displays and other applications comprises: an optical substrate and optical superstrate having inter-engaging ridged surfaces. A reflective layer is formed on at least one of the surfaces. An index matching material may be located between the surfaces. A region that receives a projected image, from a projector, directs rays launched from the projector onto the ridged surfaces, so that in use a viewer perceives an augmented image. The augmented image comprising reflected rays from the projector and transmitted rays from an object located on an opposite side of the module to that of the viewer.
