  • Publication number: 20220299778
Abstract: An encapsulated waveguide system for a near eye optical display includes a first outer layer, a second outer layer, at least one waveguide substrate comprising an input area and an output area, a first spacer and a sealing element. The at least one waveguide substrate is disposed between the first and second outer layers and spaced therefrom by the first spacer. The sealing element joins edges of the first and second outer layers so as to encapsulate the at least one waveguide substrate within a cavity formed by the first and second outer layers. The formed cavity includes a first cavity between the at least one waveguide substrate and the first outer layer and a second cavity between the at least one waveguide substrate and the second outer layer.

  • Publication number: 20150331257
Abstract: A method of forming a support member to a flexible membrane is provided by the present disclosure. In one form, the method includes placing the flexible membrane onto an outer periphery of a fixed tool, translating a movable tool towards the fixed tool, and engaging the flexible membrane such that the flexible membrane is deformed and placed into tension. A molten resin is then injected into a support ring molding cavity, and the resin is allowed to cool such that the support ring is secured to the tensioned flexible membrane. The movable tool is then translated away from the fixed tool to eject a flexible membrane and support ring assembly.

  • Patent number: 8384999
Abstract: An optical module for head mounted displays and other applications comprises: an optical substrate and optical superstrate having inter-engaging ridged surfaces. A reflective layer is formed on at least one of the surfaces. An index matching material may be located between the surfaces. A region that receives a projected image, from a projector, directs rays launched from the projector onto the ridged surfaces, so that in use a viewer perceives an augmented image. The augmented image comprising reflected rays from the projector and transmitted rays from an object located on an opposite side of the module to that of the viewer.
