Abstract: This disclosure enables a user to incrementally increase or decrease the size of the cluster and, in particular, to incrementally increase or decrease the number of map regions implemented in a metadata manager associated with the cluster while maintaining availability of the cluster. In a representative embodiment, a configurable target map size is identified, either manually (e.g., by the user) or programmatically. If the target map size is found to be within an acceptable value (given the available node configuration), a procedure to create a new map is triggered. The new map preferably is generated as follows. Initially, one or more new temporary region(s) are created either to split or join the existing regions (depending on whether the map is being increased or decreased). For each temporary region, the process also generates MDPL backup regions. Metadata from an original region (or regions) is then migrated to the temporary region(s).

Abstract: A decision-support system for medical diagnosis and treatment comprises software modules embodied on a computer readable medium, and the software modules comprise an input/output module and a question-answering module. The method receives patient case information using the input/output module, and generates a medical diagnosis or treatment query based on the patient case information and also generates a plurality of medical diagnosis or treatment answers for the query using the question-answering module. The method also calculates numerical values for multiple medical evidence dimensions from medical evidence sources for each of the answers using the question-answering module and also calculates a corresponding confidence value for each of the answers based on the numerical value of each evidence dimension using the question-answering module.

Abstract: A method for embedding a socially conscious donation, contribution, payment into a transaction at the point of sale or purchase using any payment platform that accepts, debit, credit, cash, financing, donations, contributions, financial service transactions, etc. and facilitates, separates, and keeps track of the process and the transaction, including the giveback. The system and method also handles contributions to any beneficiary which could be the person making the purchase or sale or barter. The system and method utilizes a human key to make and take requests, record payments, take and certify payments between a user or plurality of users, a merchant/business, and a charity of designated beneficiary. Whereby a set amount by the parties, user, purchaser, seller, and beneficiary can be used for a donation, contribution, or payment to a beneficiary determined at the point of sale, purchase, or barter.

Abstract: Integral liquid-coolant passageways in an x-ray tube. In one example embodiment, an x-ray tube includes a can at least partially defining an evacuated enclosure, a cathode at least partially positioned within the evacuated enclosure, and an anode at least partially positioned within the evacuated enclosure. The can has first integral liquid-coolant passageways formed therein. The can is configured to have a liquid coolant circulated through the first integral liquid-coolant passageways to thereby cool the can without the can being submersed in a liquid coolant.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to display process control information are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes receiving in a processor a first status of a first mode element, the first mode element indicating a current operating condition of an object of a process control device, receiving in the processor a second status of a second mode element, the second mode element indicating a desired operating condition of the object of the process control device, determining a mode of the object based on the first status and the second status, the mode indicating a condition of the object of the process control device, and displaying the mode of the object of the process control device within a user interface as a graphic.

Abstract: An approach to efficient data reorganization. The approach may involve searching for control interval (CI) splits and control area (CA) splits in a data component of a VSAM data set. A mapping is created that maps the source location storing the VSAM data set to a target location. The mapping reorders the VSAM data set such that the CI splits and CA splits are removed when the VSAM data set is moved to the target location in accordance with the mapping. Those CAs that do not include CI splits may be moved without using the host devices' processing resources. For example, the storage device may FlashCopy these areas directly from the source location to the target location. Those CAs that do include CI splits may be moved using the host's processing resources. For example, these CAs may be read into the host, re-ordered by the host, and written by the host to the target location.

Abstract: A meeting room reservation system may include at least one radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor to be positioned adjacent a meeting room, and a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices, each configured for RFID communication with the at least one RFID sensor. The system may further include a reservation server configured to schedule reserved starting and ending times for the meeting room, track checked-in mobile wireless communications devices based upon RFID communication with the at least one RFID sensor, and send at least one reservation expiration notification based upon a reserved ending time and a subsequent check-in of another mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: Methods and systems for distribution and management of streamable data are provided. Streamable data may be pushed out to one or more target client devices from a source device. Streamable data may be pulled from a source device by a client device. A device receiving a command to receive or transmit data may accept, dismiss, ignore, or deny the command. Annotation content may be generated in relation to the streamable data; such annotations may be transmitted concurrently with transmission of the related streamable data. Commands, transmissions, annotations, and metadata may be stored in an archive for later access or review. Data stored in the archive may be processed and converted to a different format in order to further analyze the data, determine statistics, and detect trends.

Abstract: Devices and methods for treating ocular disorders are disclosed. One ocular implant, has a substantially straight, rigid, elongate body. The body has a self-trephinating distal portion that narrows toward a distal end, and at least one inlet that communicates with at least one inner lumen that communicates with a plurality of outlets. The lumen has a sufficient length to extend from an anterior chamber of an eye to a physiologic outflow pathway. An anchor member extends from the implant.

Abstract: A method is provided for forming a tandem dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) using a bonding process. The method forms a first photovoltaic (PV) cell including a cathode, a first dye, and an anode. A second PV cell is also formed including a cathode, a second dye, and an anode. The second PV cell anode is bonded to the first PV cell cathode, at a temperature of less than 100 degrees C., using a transparent conductive adhesive. In response to the bonding, an internal series electrical connection is formed between the first PV cell and the second PV cell. In one aspect, the second PV cell is formed from a first titanium oxide (TiO2) nanotube (TNT) layer anode.

Abstract: A dual interface (DI) smart card (100) comprising a chip module (CM), a module antenna (MA), a card body (CB) and a card antenna (CA) having two windings (D,E) connected with reverse phase as a “quasi-dipole”. Capacitive stubs (B,C) connected with an antenna structure (A) of the module antenna (MA). The module antenna (MA) overlaps only one of the windings (D or E) of the card antenna (CA). The card antenna (CA) may be formed from one continuous wire. Ferrite (156) shielding the module antenna (MA) from contact pads (CP) and for enhancing coupling between the module antenna (MA) and the card antenna (CA).

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for compensating for the effect of a moving door on a nearby ferromagnetic object detector. The ferromagnetic object detector is of a type to produce a main sensor signal indicative of the presence of a ferromagnetic object in the vicinity of the ferromagnetic object detector. Furthermore, the door is arranged relative to the ferromagnetic object detector such that movement of the door is liable to introduce an undesirable interference signal into the main sensor signal. The apparatus comprises an input (3) for receiving the main sensor signal and a door sensor signal that is responsive to an opening angle of the door. The apparatus also comprises an interference signal estimator (4) for estimating a door-related interference signal in dependence upon the door sensor signal and a model of interference for the door.

Abstract: An illustrative method of data gathering includes determining that a vehicle traveling characteristic has changed beyond an expected parameter. The method further includes recording the GPS coordinates of the vehicle and ceasing recording the GPS coordinates of the vehicle when the vehicle traveling characteristic resumes the expected parameter. Finally, the method includes determining and storing a traffic control feature associated with at least one set of the GPS coordinates, if the recorded GPS coordinates of the vehicle correspond to previously recorded GPS coordinates.

Abstract: A method for processing a print job includes: a) analyzing printer description language (PDL) image data for a print job; b) determining a raster image processor (RIP) orientation for the print job based at least in part on the analysis of the PDL image data, the RIP orientation being selected from a landscape orientation and a portrait orientation; and c) processing the PDL image data for each page of the print job to form raster image data for each page in the RIP orientation and storing the raster image data in the RIP orientation. A printing platform associated with the method includes a parser module, a controller module, a storage device, and a RIP module.

Abstract: Described are embodiments that include a device with a motor that when connected to a cannula rotates the cannula while removing adipose tissue from a surgical site. The device provides a direct pathway, for aspirated adipose tissue, from a tip of the cannula to a location where tubing is attached to the device. The pathway does not pass through the motor that provides the angular rotation of the cannula. Instead, the path for the adipose tissue passes through a removable coupler that is connected to the cannula. The embodiments provide a cannula that rotates but also has a direct flow path for adipose tissue that does not pass through the motor.

A clutch mechanism is also included to prevent overloading on the motor of the angle grinder. A gear wheel lock mechanism is also provided to prevent the wheel spindle from rotating during installation or removal of a grinding wheel on the wheel spindle. An anti-locking flange system is also included to prevent the over-tightening of the flanges and the grinder wheel during the operation of the angle grinder. A gear case labyrinth feature is also provided.

A request to display in-call contact information is received, and in response to the request the in-call contact information regarding the individual is displayed. This request can be a single user input, and the in-call contact information can include information obtained by the mobile communications device from a social networking service.
