  • Patent number: 4758728
Abstract: The misregistration of kinescope panel assemblies is measured by passing UV through the shadow mask to the phosphor screen. The lighthouse optics are set for exposure of one of the three phosphor colors, such as green. The intensity of light emanating from the panel is measured for a plurality of locations on the screen, and for a plurality of incremental positions of the panel assembly with respect to the lighthouse light source. The position of maximum intensity of light emanating from the panel is recorded and used to calculate the misregistration between the phosphor screen and the shadow mask.

  • Patent number: 4341952
Abstract: A video disc record suitable for use with a video disc player apparatus is provided with a label for identifying the program material stored on the surface of the record. The label is formed in a machine readable format which comprises grooves in the surface of the record. In one format whorls of a spiral groove of a first pitch are spaced alternately with whorls of a spiral groove of a second pitch. A readout apparatus comprises a light beam which is arranged to scan the grooved label and a detector which is arranged to sense the light beam reflected from the disc record surface. Light striking a grooved section of first pitch is reflected in a substantially specular direction while light striking a grooved section of second pitch is substantially scattered out of the specular direction. The detector is arranged to collect the light reflected into the specular direction.

  • Patent number: 4292511
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reading an identifying label on an information record where the label consists of alternating regions of the record surface having different surface effects. The apparatus comprises a light source, collimating optics, focusing optics to focus a portion of the light beam scattered from the record surface on a multi-element light detector whose elements are successively read out to form a serial electrical signal representative of the label, and electrical means for reading out the detected light signal. The apparatus has sufficient sensitivity and accuracy to read out a black-on-black label.

  • Patent number: 4243912
Abstract: The electron gun includes a pair of electrodes between which a resistive lens structure comprising a stack of alternate apertured plates and resistive blocks is disposed. The stack comprises a first section which has two resistive blocks between each adjacent pair of electrode plates and a second section which has one resistive block between each adjacent pair of electrode plates. The lens is thereby adapted to operate with a potential profile which comprises a compound linear slope in a 1:2 ratio.

  • Patent number: 4243911
Abstract: The electron gun includes a pair of electrodes between which a resistive lens structure comprising a stack of alternate apertured plates and resistive blocks is disposed. A first portion of the resistive stack is electrically paralleled with another stack of resistive blocks whereby bleeder current through the resistive lens structure results in a compound linear potential profile. The other stack of resistive blocks may comprise a second stack in the same lens structure interleaved with the apertured plates of the lens structure or it may constitute together with a different set of aperture plates a second resistive lens structure between a different pair of electrodes of the gun.

  • Patent number: 4124810
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube includes an electron gun having a distributed lens system which yields smaller spot sizes on a phosphor screen at intermediate and higher cathode currents when compared with prior art electrostatic lenses having similar diameters. The lens establishes an essentially exponentially increasing potential distribution along the electron beam path.
