  • Patent number: 10132120
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to elastomer-thermally conductive carbon fiber compositions for use in seals for roller-cone drill bits. The present disclosure further relates to seals formed from such compositions and to roller-cone drill bits containing such seals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 19, 2014
Date of Patent: November 20, 2018
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.
Inventors: B. Raghava Reddy, Feng Liang, Ping C. Sui, David P. Duckworth
  • Patent number: 9988850
Abstract: A downhole seal system for roller cone drill bits includes a seal gland having a width larger than it depth. In one implementation, the seal gland includes a protrusion along its base on which a seal element seats. The seal element is a single, annular seal element with a recess formed therein so as to define two lobes. The seal element seats in the gland so that the recess engages the protrusion. The lobes function as separate seal elements, although they are a single unitary seal element disposed in a single gland.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 31, 2012
Date of Patent: June 5, 2018
    Assignee: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.
Inventors: Micheal B. Crawford, Mark E. Williams, Young H. Lee, David P. Duckworth, Zhaohui Shan

  • Patent number: 8789623
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to greases containing metal sulfonate thickeners. In one example the thickener may be a calcium sulfonate thickener. In other examples grease may contain a combination of a metal sulfonate thickener and another thickener, such as a metal complex soap grease, detergent, or non-soap thickener. The grease may be formulated to meet specific performance criteria relevant to lubrication of a roller cone drill bit in downhole conditions. The disclosure also relates to a roller cone drill bit containing a grease of the disclosure.
    Type: Grant
