Patent number: 4710096Abstract: A fan casing for mounting a plurality of motor/fan units for cooling electronic apparatus mounted in racks or cabinets, the casing comprising two identical planar members to be assembled so that the motor/fan units are sandwiched between the planar members with finger guard members covering openings in the planar members. Inwardly directed projections formed by a pierce and plunge operation are provided on the planar members to engage in apertures in the motor/fan units to locate the motor/fan units and indentations are formed in the planar members to receive and locate the finger guard members so that when the two parts of the casing are assembled the finger guard members are disposed between the motor/fan units and the planar members. Attachment means are provided engaging in recesses to couple the two planar members one to the other, each planar member has parts of side walls and end walls integral therewith and the overall height 2D of the casing is 45 mm.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1986Date of Patent: December 1, 1987Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf Loh GmbH & Co KGInventor: David P. Patent number: 4656801Abstract: A three way joint for a frame structure comprises a location piece secured to one end of a first transverse member and having two spaced protrusions extending axially of the first transverse member and a screw threaded nut (not shown); a second transverse member to engage over the location piece and having apertures to receive the protrusions and a further aperture and an upright frame member having apertures therein to receive the protrusions; and a further aperture to receive a bolt, the bolt passing through the apertures and engaging in the nut to clamp the three members together. A reinforcing member may be included.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1985Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf LOH GmbH & CO KGInventor: David P. Erlam

Patent number: 4511199Abstract: A card frame having a number of pairs of vertically spaced card guides for receiving cards provided with plug connectors. Each pair of card guides is associated with a socket connector to establish electrical contact. A double-armed lever is pivotally mounted on each card by means of a pin at the lower front corner of the card and is adapted to be pivoted from an initial position, which is oblique to the forward edge of the card, into a latching position in an abutting relationship with the forward edge of the card. The short lever arm terminates in a hook and heel configuration. The hook portion is engageable with a receptacle fixed on the frame, as the card is inserted and the lever is pivoted upward into the latching position, with the hook bearing against the receptacle counter to the direction of insertion of the card. The heel portion bears against a front surface area of the frame as the lever is pushed downward into its initial position and the card is ejected.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1983Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf Loh GmbH & Co. KGInventors: David P. Erlam, Arthur E. Carr

Patent number: 4509810Abstract: The invention relates to a rack comprising both in front and in back two vertical angular mounting members which have secured thereto for each card frame two lateral slide assemblies, appropriately oriented with respect to each other, for the adjustable mounting of card frames provided with side plates. These simple and easily installable lateral slides permit the card frames to be adjustably and yet readily detachably secured on the rack, requiring but simple tools for the mounting.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1983Date of Patent: April 9, 1985Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf Loh GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4508228Abstract: A card frame for housing electrical circuitry mounted on cards comprises end plates (10) separated by front and rear cross rails (12, 14) that mount card-guides (16) in which the cards can slide. Each card guide (16) comprises end elements (28a, 28b) engageable with the front and rear cross rails (12, 14) in first and second positions (FIG. 1 and FIG. 2) spaced in both the top-to-bottom and front-to-rear directions of the card frame. Each card guide (16) additionally comprises a shank (30) formed separately from the end members (28a, 28b) and assembled with them. If the shank (30) is of a first length the end elements (28a, 28b) will engage with the cross-rails (12, 14) in the first positions to accommodate a card of a first height, whereas if the shank (30) is of a second, smaller length the end elements will engage with the cross rails in the second positions to accommodate a card of a second, greater height.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1982Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Rittal-CSM LimitedInventor: David P. Patent number: 4505392Abstract: A card frame for accommodating circuit cards comprises side plates (10) joined by cross rails (12). The side plates (10) are die cast and have ridges (30) integrally cast therewith, the opposed faces of the ridges acting as ledges. The ridges (30) extend in the front to rear direction of the card frame. The cross rails (12) are secured at their end to the side plates (10) by a single screw (16), twisting of the cross rails 12 being prevented by their abutting the above-mentioned ledges.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1982Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf LOH GmbH & Co., KGInventor: David P. Patent number: 4461384Abstract: A card frame kit includes end lates (10a, 10b) and cross rails (16) that can be assembled together to form the card frame. The kit is packaged in a box (30) with the end plates (10a, 10b) laid flat. When the kit is to be assembled, the box (30) is used as a temporary, disposable jig. To this end, inserts (40) that receive the cross-rails (16) comprise slots (44) in which the side plates (10a, 10b) can be stood up in the relative orientation they are to adopt in the assembled card frame. The assembler thus has his hands free to assemble at least some of the cross rails (16) to the side plates (10a, 10b) to form a self-supporting structure that can then be removed from the jig, if necessary or desired, to complete the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1982Date of Patent: July 24, 1984Assignee: Rittal-Werk Rudolf Loh GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4433788Abstract: A simple and inexpensive skeleton frame for a fabricated structure for housing electrical equipment comprises upstanding legs which are arranged at the corners of the frame and which are secured together at the top and bottom of the frame by endless flexible frame metal bands surrounding the legs and maintained in tension by bracing devices positioned between the legs. Each bracing device comprises a central hub, elongate braces extending outwardly from the hub and each engaging a leg, and screw threaded adjustable means for urging the braces outwardly to maintain the endless band under such a tension that the frame is held rigid. The bottom, sides and top of the frame are clad with sheet metal and a hinged door.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1981Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: BICC Public Limited CompanyInventors: David P.
