  • Patent number: 7293239
Abstract: Enabling an organization to control user assignments and assessment results while enabling a proprietary provider to maintain control over both network distribution of proprietary content comprising the assignments and use of proprietary assessment functions that evaluate the user's performance of the assignments. A student uses a browser to submit a request to a learning management system (LMS) that includes a URL to a network node hosting the proprietary learning content and assessment functions. The LMS sends a hidden form to the browser, causing the browser to automatically redirect to the network node. The proprietary provider then controls distribution of the proprietary learning content to the browser and controls the student's interaction with the proprietary learning content to accomplish the assignment. When the student submits responses to the assignment, the proprietary provider performs proprietary assessment functions and redirects only results data to the LMS through the browser.

  • Patent number: 6542163
Abstract: A facility for a presentation program displays unobtrusive, context-sensitive and customizable tips for a user of a program. Event and state are two types of tip conditions that will cause the facility to display a tip icon and/or a tip message window. Events are created by an action or series of actions. State conditions may be related to the state of the program and they are usually detected when the user has not used the application for a predetermined period of time. The tip icon is usually disposed adjacent to the object that triggered the tip condition. Generally, a tip message window (tip balloon) is only displayed if the user has selected the tip icon for the tip condition. However, if the tip condition has a high priority value, then the tip message window may be immediately displayed without the tip icon.

  • Patent number: 5781190
Abstract: A presentation transport system is provided that transfers a slide presentation from a source computer to a destination computer in such a manner as to ensure that the presentation will look and operate in the manner in which it was intended on the destination computer. In order to provide this functionality, the presentation transport system packs up the presentation on the source computer, including the link sources for the presentation, stores the presentation and the link sources onto a transfer medium, and unpacks the presentation and the link sources after it has been transferred to the destination computer. During this process, the links contained in the presentation are maintained so that when the presentation is displayed on the destination computer, the links are operational. Additionally, the fonts used by the presentation are transferred by the presentation transport system so as to ensure that when the presentation is displayed, the correct fonts are used.
