  • Patent number: 11939010
Abstract: A method for vehicle stabilization includes, in response to a determination that a fault occurred in a rear steering mechanism, identifying a fault type associated with the fault. The method also includes determining whether a position of a rack of the rear steering mechanism is controllable based on the fault type. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the position of the rack is controllable, selectively positioning the rack to a center position and holding, using a motor control system of the rear steering mechanism, the rack in the center position. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the position of the rack is not controllable, holding, using the motor control system of the rear steering mechanism, the rack in a current position.

  • Patent number: 11697452
Abstract: A method includes determining whether a multiphase electric machine is unstable. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the multiphase electric machine is unstable, setting a gate voltage of a first three terminal semiconductor switch to zero. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the multiphase electric machine is stable, setting the gate voltage of the first three terminal semiconductor switch to nonzero. The method also includes, in response to the first three terminal semiconductor switch being set to zero, increasing electrical conduction from one phase of the multiphase electric machine to another phase of the multiphase electric machine. The method includes, in response to the first three terminal semiconductor switch being set to nonzero, increasing electrical resistance from the one phase of the multiphase electric machine to the another phase of the multiphase electric machine.

  • Patent number: 11285991
Abstract: An electromagnetic damping system for a steering system includes a pinion gear having a pinion shaft and engaged with a steering rack. The electromagnetic damping system also includes a friction disk operatively coupled to the pinion shaft. The electromagnetic damping system further includes an electromagnetic clutch located adjacent the friction disk, the electromagnetic clutch disposed in a spaced position relative to the friction disk in a first condition of the electromagnetic clutch, the electromagnetic clutch disposed in a contact position relative to the friction disk in a second condition of the electromagnetic clutch to damp the rate of movement of the steering rack.

  • Patent number: 9873454
Abstract: A ball-screw assembly isolator is provided and includes a housing, a ball-screw, a ball-screw nut, a bearing assembly, a retaining member, a second retaining member, a first compressible member and a second compressible member. The bearing assembly is located between the housing and the ball-screw. The bearing assembly includes an inner race and an outer race. The retaining member is secured by the housing. The second retaining member is secured to the ball-screw nut. The first compressible member positioned between the housing and the outer race. The second compressible member is positioned between the outer race and the retaining member. The retaining member is configured to be preloaded to exert an axial force upon the first compressible member and the second compressible member.
