  • Publication number: 20240122276
Abstract: Aspects herein are directed to an apparel item that promotes thermo-regulation through the use of engineered openings, venting, and/or stand-off structures. In exemplary aspects, 20-45% of the apparel item may comprise the engineered openings. Vents may be positioned on the apparel item in areas that experience high amounts of air flow to help channel air into the apparel item. The stand-off structures may be positioned on an inner-facing surface of the apparel item where they help to create a space between the apparel item and the wearer's body surface in which air can flow and help cool the wearer by promoting evaporative cooling.

  • Patent number: 7634398
Abstract: A method is provided for forming a reconstructed parse structure for an initial parse structure. Under the method, at least one rule used to form the initial parse structure and at least one additional rule are executed to form the reconstructed parse structure. In many embodiments, the reconstructed parse structure differs from the initial parse structure in that a node is located in a different position in the reconstructed parse structure than in the initial parse structure.

  • Patent number: 7384067
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new type of safety system that is designed to protect a vehicle occupant during a rollover crash. The safety system will generally include a vehicle seat and a sensor. The sensor is designed to sense the occurrence of a rollover crash. The safety system also includes a support member that has an undeployed mode and a deployed mode. The support member converts from the undeployed mode into the deployed mode when a signal is received from the sensor indicating a rollover. The support member will generally be housed within the vehicle seat when the support member is in the undeployed mode. The support member is also anchored to the floor pan of the vehicle. When the support member is deployed into the deployed mode, the support member is disposed in effective engagement with the vehicle roof to limit movement of the roof toward the vehicle seat during rollover conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070120384
Abstract: An impact energy management system for absorbing or displacing kinetic energy during a collision. The system includes a housing defining a chamber and a contact element disposed at least partially within the chamber and longitudinally movable therein. A tab extends from a side wall of one of the housing and the contact element. Prior to a collision, the contact element is disposed in an impact position, and upon the collision the contact element moves within the chamber. The tab contacts a side wall portion of an other of the one of the housing and the contact element. The side wall of the housing and/or the contact element tears to absorb or displace kinetic energy during the collision, thereby reducing the force of the impact by transferring energy through the tearing.

  • Publication number: 20070052223
Abstract: A collapsible gas guide for use in inflatable curtain airbags is disclosed. The gas guide may include two or more conduit segments that are interconnected by adjustable joints. The adjustable joints may permit adjustment of an angle formed between conduit segments that are coupled to the adjustable joint. The adjustable joint may rotatably or hingedly couple the conduit segments of the gas guide together.

  • Publication number: 20060261638
Abstract: An impact energy management system for absorbing or displacing kinetic energy during a collision. The system includes a housing defining a chamber and a contact element disposed at least partially within the chamber and longitudinally movable therein. At least a first load bearing pin is disposed between the energy adsorbing member and the housing. Prior to the collision, the contact element is disposed in an impact position, and upon the collision, the contact element moves within the chamber and the first pin deforms a segment of at least one of the housing or contact element, thereby reducing the force of the impact by transferring energy into the deformation.

  • Publication number: 20060253275
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying non-local relationships between licensing elements in a text segment and a word or phrase external to the text segment during a syntactic parse. Under the method, certain syntactic rules for combining words or phrases with text segments indicate that there is a possibility that the word or phrase being combined with the text segment will fill a gap in a relationship within the text segment. Based on this possibility, the text segment is searched to determine if there are any unfilled gaps in the text segment. Under some embodiments, if an unfilled gap is found, the location of the gap and the role the word or phrase plays in the gap are stored in a data structure associated with the syntactic node formed by combining the word or phrase with the text segment.

  • Publication number: 20060214398
Abstract: An airbag restrain system is disclosed for use in automotive protective systems. The airbag restraint system includes an inflatable airbag cushion having a tether coupled to the interior surface of the cushion. The airbag restraint system further includes first and second inflators for dual mode airbag cushion deployment. Upon a pre-impact condition, the first inflator deploys to partially inflate the cushion and release the tether. The second inflator also deploys to inflate the cushion to approximately full capacity. Upon an impact condition, only the second inflator deploys and the tether extends until taut to limit expansion of the cushion. Means are provided to retain and release the tether in response to the first inflator.
