  • Publication number: 20180366994
Abstract: The disclosure features wireless energy transfer systems that include a plurality of sensors coupled to a controller, wherein the controller is configured to: obtain a system calibration state including a set of basis vectors derived from a first set of electrical signals generated by the plurality of sensors with no foreign object debris in proximity to the system; measure a second set of electrical signals from the sensors; calculate a projection of the second set of electrical signals onto the set of basis vectors; calculate a detection signal based on the projection; determine whether foreign object debris is present in proximity to the system by comparing the calculated detection signal to a detection threshold value; and adjust the system calibration state based on the presence or absence of foreign object debris in proximity to the system to generate an updated system calibration state.

  • Publication number: 20180091001
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for mitigating false detection of a foreign or living objects positioned near a wireless power system configured to transmit power to a load of a vehicle. Methods and systems can monitor a foreign or living object detection (FOD or LOD) signal of a FOD or LOD system, the FOD or LOD system coupled to the wireless power system. The methods and systems can receive a first sensor signal from a first sensor and monitor the first sensor signal from the first sensor. Methods and systems can decrease or turn off power transmission, if the first displacement of the FOD signal magnitude crosses the FOD threshold and if the characteristic of the first sensor signal is a normal value throughout time tstart±tolerance, from a wireless power transmitter of the wireless power system.

  • Publication number: 20180056800
Abstract: The disclosure features systems and methods that include generating a set of Nm voltage values using one or more magnetic field detectors, where each voltage value is related in magnitude to an amplitude of a magnetic field between a wireless power source and a wireless power receiver mounted to a vehicle, classifying the set of Nm voltage values into one of two classes, where each of the two classes represents a different spatial region defining a range of positions of the wireless power receiver relative to a position of the wireless power source, and transmitting a signal including output information to a processor or display interface, the output information featuring information about the one class into which the set of voltage values was classified.
