  • Patent number: 10236001
Abstract: Techniques for passive enrollment of a user in a speaker identification (ID) device are provided. One technique includes: parsing, by a processor of the speaker ID device, a speech sample, spoken by the user, into a keyword phrase sample and a command phrase sample; identifying, by a text-dependent speaker ID circuit of the speaker ID device, the user as the speaker of the keyword phrase sample; associating the command phrase sample with the identified user; determining if the command phrase sample in conjunction with one or more earlier command phrase samples associated with the user is sufficient command phrase sampling to enroll the user in a text-independent speaker ID circuit of the speaker ID device; and enrolling the user in the text-independent speaker ID circuit using the command phrase samples associated with the user after determining there is sufficient command phrase sampling to enroll the user.

  • Patent number: 10225643
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for secure audio acquisition. The method includes receiving audio data via a digital microphone. The digital microphone outputs a single bit at a high sampling rate. The digital microphone output is converted to a full range audio signal. The full range audio signal is filtered to provide a band limited audio output that avoids capture of enough of a spectral range of speech for the speech to be intelligible.

  • Patent number: 10187513
Abstract: A system and method for discouraging the in appropriate use of a mobile device including registering a mobile device with a monitoring application running on a system coupled with a network. A mobile device is linked with the monitoring application through the network. The operational status of the mobile device is monitored to detect if a change occurs in the operational status. A change in the operational status of the mobile device is reported to the monitoring program with time information and the status change is displayed in a graphical interface, and a notification message is sent to a system user. Beacons might also be implemented to advise a device user to disable a mobile device to be monitored.

  • Patent number: 10170135
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for technology to perform gait detection and identification. The system includes a pre-processing pipeline to process audio input data from one or more microphones to combine and strengthen an audio gait signal. The pre-processing pipeline is coupled to a gait detector to detect the sound of one or more footsteps from the audio gait signal. The system also includes a person evaluator (e.g., identifier/verifier) to identify the person associated with the one or more footsteps using a set of trained footstep identification (ID) classifiers. Each trained footstep ID classifier is mapped to the gait of a specific person in the home based on a particular combination of person, footwear, and floor surface within the home.

  • Publication number: 20180204545
Abstract: A chromatic harmonica with reduced air leakage in which a flexible mouthpiece replaces the conventional rigid mouthpiece, and a low friction valve slide replaces the conventional valve slide, thereby allowing the low friction valve slide to move horizontally when played without binding, and which eliminates the need for a gap between the mouthpiece and valve slide through which air leaks. For the chromatic harmonica with a flexible mouthpiece to function properly, a new button configuration is added. The button is disposed in the rear portion of the chromatic harmonica. A bar is attached to the button at one end of the bar, and the other end of the bar inserts into an opening in the valve slide. The button further comprises a cylinder, around which a spring is disposed. The cylinder inserts inside of a hole on a side of the chromatic harmonica adjacent the rear.

  • Patent number: 9953634
Abstract: Provided are methods and systems for passive training for automatic speech recognition. An example method includes utilizing a first, speaker-independent model to detect a spoken keyword or a key phrase in spoken utterances. While utilizing the first model, a second model is passively trained to detect the spoken keyword or the key phrase in the spoken utterances using at least partially the spoken utterances. The second, speaker dependent model may utilize deep neural network (DNN) or convolutional neural network (CNN) techniques. In response to completion of the training, a switch is made from utilizing the first model to utilizing the second model to detect the spoken keyword or the key phrase in spoken utterances. While utilizing the second model, parameters associated therewith are updated using the spoken utterances in response to detecting the keyword or the key phrase in the spoken utterances. User authentication functionality may be provided.

  • Patent number: 9899034
Abstract: Technologies for identifying sounds are disclosed. A sound identification device may capture sound data, and split the sound data into frames. The sound identification device may then determine an acoustic feature vector for each frame, and determine parameters based on how each acoustic feature varies over the duration of time corresponding to the frames. The sound identification device may then determine if the sound matches a pre-defined sound based on the parameters. In one embodiment, the sound identification device may be a baby monitor, and the pre-defined sound may be a baby crying.

  • Patent number: 9732681
Abstract: A turbo-generator system generates electricity from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine 1. The electric current generated by the generator 11 (e.g. a switched reluctance machine) is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a first pre-set rotational speed. The amount of electric current demanded from the generator 11 is limited or reduced if the electrical system 17 cannot accept a greater electric current or if the exhaust gas pressure upstream of the turbine 3 is too great. In such cases, the proportion of the exhaust gas permitted to bypass the turbine 3 is controlled so as to maintain the turbine 3 at a second pre-set rotational speed that is slightly greater than the first. The turbine's preset speeds are chosen to maximize electrical generating efficiency and for turbine safety. The system maximizes the amount of electricity generated, avoids excessive exhaust gas back-pressure on the engine 1, and avoids overloading the electrical system 17.
