  • Publication number: 20170089417
Abstract: A damper assembly comprises a piston and cylinder type damper with a piston assembly (10) mounted for reciprocal movement in a cylinder (12) containing damping fluid. The piston assembly divides the interior of the cylinder into two chambers and provides a means of communication in the form of channels (12a, 12b, 17, 20) for passage of damping fluid between the chambers. The channels are arranged to allow passage of more or less damping fluid, depending on the position of the piston assembly with respect to the cylinder along its path of reciprocation.

  • Patent number: 9556660
Abstract: A damped hinge assembly is provided that comprises a hinge unit (10) and a damping unit (14). A mechanism is provided for connecting the two units together for purposes of transportation and handling, as well as for ease of installation. The connecting mechanism allows the units to move relative to one another between a transit state, which allows access for installation purposes, and a working position in which the damping unit is operative to provide resistance to closing movement of a door.

  • Publication number: 20160273258
Abstract: A hinge assembly is provided in the form of a toggle type hinge, with an arm assembly (11) anchorable in use to a first member and a cup flange (13) pivotally connected thereto and anchorable in use to a second member. The assembly includes a linear damping device (15) and a mechanism for converting pivotal movement of the hinge into actuation of the damping device, at least over part of the range of this pivotal movement. The movement converting mechanism is arranged to produce the actuation of the damping device (15) through rotational movement about its linear axis via transmission of at least two equal and opposite forces acting symmetrically about this axis.

  • Patent number: 9414724
Abstract: A damped hinge assembly mounts a first member (12, 13) for pivotal movement relative to a second member (14) about an axis of rotation (20). The assembly includes a linear damper (17), which is mounted with its longitudinal axis parallel to the hinge axis, and a cam drive arrangement (21a, 21b, 30a, 30b) for converting the pivotal movement of the first member in at least one direction of rotation into linear displacement of the damper. This causes the damper to produce a damped resistive force to counter the pivotal movement of the first member. The longitudinal axis of the damper is arranged to be coincident with the hinge axis.

  • Patent number: 8640305
Abstract: A toggle type hinge (10) has a damper assembly mounted on the flange (12) of its hinge cup. The damper assembly provides a damping resistance to the closing movement of the hinge over its final stage. The damper assembly includes: a sleeve (21) which houses a linear damper. The sleeve (21) is mounted on a groove (26) on the hinge cup flange (12) and is held in position by a holder (15). A wing (22) on the sleeve (21) is arranged to come into engagement with an arm (11) of the hinge, causing the sleeve to rotate about its longitudinal axis (25). A cam arrangement (19, 23) between the hinge cup flange (12) and the sleeve (21) causes the sleeve to move along its axis (25) as it rotates. The axial movement of the sleeve (21) causes compression of the damper.
