  • Publication number: 20070213314
Abstract: Dibenzyl amine compounds and derivatives, pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds and the use of such compounds to elevate certain plasma lipid levels, including high density lipoprotein-cholesterol and to lower certain other plasma lipid levels, such as LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides and accordingly to treat diseases which are exacerbated by low levels of HDL cholesterol and/or high levels of LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides, such as atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases in some mammals, including humans.

  • Publication number: 20070146873
Abstract: A high speed, high-resolution flow imaging system is modified to achieve extended depth of field imaging. An optical distortion element is introduced into the flow imaging system. Light from an object, such as a cell, is distorted by the distortion element, such that a point spread function (PSF) of the imaging system is invariant across an extended depth of field. The distorted light is spectrally dispersed, and the dispersed light is used to simultaneously generate a plurality of images. The images are detected, and image processing is used to enhance the detected images by compensating for the distortion, to achieve extended depth of field images of the object. The post image processing preferably involves de-convolution, and requires knowledge of the PSF of the imaging system, as modified by the optical distortion element.

  • Publication number: 20070095520
Abstract: A controller for a two-stage heat source is provide, which may be connected to either a single stage or a two-stage thermostat to provide low stage heating for a variable time period before switching to high stage heating. The controller includes at least a first terminal for receiving a signal requesting heating from a single-stage thermostat or a two-stage thermostat connected to the first terminal. A microcontroller in communication with the first terminal determines a duty cycle value for a heating cycle based on the duration in which a signal at the first terminal is present relative to the duration of the heating cycle. The microcontroller determines a low stage time limit from the duty cycle, and provides low stage heating when a signal is present at the first terminal for a time period not more than the time limit, and switches to high stage heating after the time limit.

  • Patent number: 7202770
Abstract: The present invention provides overvoltage circuit protection. Specifically, the present invention provides a voltage variable material (“VVM”) that includes an insulative binder that is formulated to intrinsically adhere to conductive and nonconductive surfaces. The binder and thus the VVM is self-curable and may be applied to an application in the form of an ink, which dries in a final form for use. The binder eliminates the need to place the VVM in a separate device or for separate printed circuit board pads on which to electrically connect the VVM. The binder and thus the VVM can be directly applied to many different types of substrates, such as a rigid (FR-4) laminate, a polyimide or a polymer. The VVM can also be directly applied to different types of substrates that are placed inside a device.

  • Publication number: 20060204071
Abstract: Multimodal/multispectral images of a population of cells are simultaneously collected. Photometric and/or morphometric features identifiable in the images are used to separate the population of cells into a plurality of subpopulations. Where the population of cells includes diseased cells and healthy cells, the images can be separated into a healthy subpopulation, and a diseased subpopulation. Where the population of cells does not include diseased cells, one or more ratios of different cell types in patients not having a disease condition can be compared to the corresponding ratios in patients having the disease condition, enabling the disease condition to be detected. For example, blood cells can be separated into different types based on their images, and an increase in the number of lymphocytes, a phenomenon associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, can readily be detected.

  • Publication number: 20060119731
Abstract: A system and method for high numeric aperture imaging systems includes a splitter, a defocusing system, and a combiner. The splitter reflects a portion of collected light and transmits another portion of the collected light. The defocusing system is configured to modify optical power of either the transmitted portion or reflected portion of the collected light. The combiner is oriented with respect to a mechanical angle. The combiner recombines portions of the transmitted portion and the reflected portion such that the transmitted portion and reflected portion are subsequently transmitted being separated by an optical separation angle based upon the mechanical angle of orientation of the combiner. Various other implementations are used to maintain focus with regards to the imaging systems involved.

  • Patent number: 7052080
Abstract: A frame for supporting a back pack and providing a seat structure is formed of a rigid assembly having side portions with four downwardly extending tubular leg members and includes spaced apart, paralleled, lateral members extending between the side portions. A leg extender is telescopically received in each of the four tubular leg members. A pad member having a lower horizontal surface is affixed to a lower end of each of the leg extenders. A locking member at the lower end of each of the tubular leg members provides adjustable spacing of the leg extenders. The frame is configured to receive a flexible back pack between the legs thereof and is adaptable to support a horizontal seat surface when the pad members are resting on the earth's surface.

  • Publication number: 20060101197
Abstract: An archival cartridge management system for conditioning removable data cartridges and normal archival operations is disclosed. The archival cartridge management system includes a cartridge holder and a controller. The cartridge holder has a connector configured for coupling to a removable data cartridge. The connector is coupled to the controller, which performs archival functions on removable data cartridges. The controller reads from removable data cartridges to determine if at least some data stored on a removable data cartridge should be refreshed. If so, the controller refreshes data stored on the removable data cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7025668
Abstract: A composite polishing pad for use in chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) processes, which polishing pad of the invention is made of a paper-making-process produced fibrous-matrix of paper-making fibers bound with resin material, and consists of a top section with one or more lower sections, where each layer has unique material properties. Polishing performance can be substantially improved by modifying the individual characteristics of each layer. Typically, the top layer or working surface will be of a higher modulus material than the lower layers. Therefore, the sub-layers may consist of lower density regions or a modified surface structure, such as grooving, to effectively modify the bulk modulus.

  • Publication number: 20060029267
Abstract: Combinatorially-synthesized deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) oligonucleotides attached to encoded beads that are hybridized to amplified and labeled genomic DNA or ribonucleic acid (RNA) are analyzed using a flow imaging system. Oligonucleotides and corresponding reporters are bound to the surfaces of a plurality of small beads such that different beads bear different oligo sequences. Each bead bears a unique optical signature comprising a predefined number of unique reporters, where each reporter comprises a predefined combination of different fluorochromes. The composite spectral signature in turn identifies the unique nucleotide sequence of its attached oligo chains. This optical signature is rapidly decoded using an imaging system to discriminate the different reporters attached to each bead in a flow in regard to color and spatial position on the bead.

  • Patent number: 6979256
Abstract: A novel retaining ring having a wear pad of such construction, design and material such that it provides improved resistance to wear and/or degradation as compared to currently available products for use in the chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) of semiconductor wafers and similar materials. The retaining ring with wear pad of the invention is able to withstand increased operating temperatures and pressures at the polishing surface of the wafer with less wear than would normally be encountered with currently used materials and designs. The ability to operate at increased temperature and pressure can accelerate the rate of removal of material from a semiconductor wafer in some processes.
