  • Publication number: 20030055036
Abstract: Methods for treating a demyelinating condition in a subject in need of treatment are provided. In some aspects the methods encompass administering to the subject an amount of a Ca2+-channel blocker effective to treat the demyelinating condition. In other aspects, the methods encompass administering to the subject an amount of a glutamate inhibitor effective to treat the demyelinating condition. In additional aspects, the methods encompass administering to the subject a Ca2+-channel blocker in combination with a glutamate inhibitor, in amounts effective to treat the demyelinating condition. In still other aspects, the methods encompass administering to the subject a Ca2+-channel blocker in combination with a hypertensive agent, in amounts effective to treat the demyelinating condition. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions having a Ca2+-channel blocker, a glutamate inhibitor, and a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier.

  • Patent number: 6455553
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for treating a demyelinating condition in a subject in need of treatment, by administering to the subject an amount of a Ca2+-channel blocker effective to treat the demyelinating condition. The present invention is also directed to a method for treating a demyelinating condition in a subject in need of treatment, by administering to the subject a Ca2+-channel blocker in combination with a glutamate inhibitor, in amounts effective to treat the demyelinating condition. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a Ca2+-channel blocker, a glutamate inhibitor, and a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier. Additionally, the present invention provides a method for treating a demyelinating condition in a subject in need of treatment, by administering to the subject a Ca2+-channel blocker in combination with a hypertensive agent, in amounts effective to treat the demyelinating condition.

  • Publication number: 20020046533
Abstract: A grill system comprising at least two rod arrangements 1a and at least one clamping member 12. The clamping member 12 retains the rod arrangements 1a in a predetermined spacial configuration. Each rod arrangement 1a comprises a straight rod 2 having a first end portion 2a provided with an expanded portion 3 received by the clamping member 12. The clamping member 12 comprises two separate, corresponding portions 5 secured together by a bolt 10 and nut 11. The grille system is used as a security grille or in the manufacture of garden furniture or plant supports.

  • Patent number: 5510894
Abstract: A spot of a sample is illuminated by laser light. Raman scattered light is collimated in a parallel beam by a microscope objective, and analyzed by a dispersive or non-dispersive analyzer (such as a diffraction grating or filter). A lens then focuses the Raman scattered light onto a two-dimensional photodetector array in the form of a charge-coupled device (CCD). A confocal technique is described to eliminate light scattered from outside the focal plane of the objective. This may be done by binning together a few pixels of the CCD at the focal point of the lens, or by image processing techniques in a computer.

  • Patent number: 4279206
Abstract: Coal is ground or pulverized to an extremely small particle size (6 microns or less) and introduced into a mixing chamber where the coal powder is atomized or mixed with air to form a cloud of coal particles entrained in air. Prescribed, controlled amounts of the coal powder/air mixture are withdrawn from the mixing chamber and fed to the burner nozzle of a furnace, from which nozzle the mixture is directed to a combustion zone. The igniter for the system is positioned at the combustion zone and is preferably a strong electric arc, although other igniters could be used. After combustion exhaust gases from the furnace are withdrawn and cleaned up through a water filter in which a plurality of screens are kept flushed with water passing in one direction as the combustion gases pass in the opposite direction to the atmosphere.
