  • Patent number: 11496664
Abstract: A method in an electronic device includes determining, with one or more processors, an operating condition of the electronic device influencing one or more magnetic fields measured by a voice coil motor sensor of the electronic device. The method includes obtaining, by the one or more processors from a memory of the electronic device, an expected voice coil motor sensor measurement that is a function of the operating condition. Thereafter, the method includes causing, by the one or more processors, a voice coil motor driver to modify a voice coil motor drive signal until the voice coil motor sensor detects the expected voice coil motor sensor measurement, thereby compensating for effects of the operating condition affecting the voice coil motor.

  • Patent number: 8480531
Abstract: A differential includes first and second case members that are attached to each other to define an inner cavity that receives a differential gear assembly. A first tapered roller bearing is associated with the first case member and a second tapered roller bearing is associated with the second case member. One of the first and second tapered roller bearings is inverted such that a defining taper diverges towards the differential gear assembly. • Publication number: 20080044609
Abstract: A reinforced structural assembly is provided including a hollow structure having a cavity with a hole. A bag is inserted into the cavity and has an end with an opening extending out of the cavity through the hole. A device injects a structural foam into the bag. The bag is closed and the end of the bag is inserted into the cavity. A cap is installed over the hole. The foam expands to fill the cavity but is contained within the bag thereby providing localized reinforcement in the desired area.

  • Publication number: 20070170678
Abstract: A king pin is mounted in a hollow axle. An insert is force fit into each end of the hollow axle. The insert includes an aperture that aligns with an aperture in a wall of the hollow axle to provide a mount structure for the king pin. This mount structure thus provides a solid and reliable mount in a very simplified manner. The hollow axle and insert are also provided with draw key holes such that bolts may lock the king pin within the insert and the hollow axle.

  • Publication number: 20060185949
Abstract: A suspension system includes a fluid strut that operates with a compressible fluid such as silicon oil. The fluid strut includes an outer cylinder, an inner cylinder received within the outer cylinder, and a plate positioned between an inner surface of the outer cylinder and an outer surface of the inner cylinder. The plate separates a fluid chamber within the outer cylinder into a main chamber and an auxiliary chamber. The inner cylinder defines an inner chamber that is in fluid communication with both the auxiliary and main chambers. A two-way valve directs fluid flow between the main and inner chambers. A three-way valve directs flow between the auxiliary and inner chambers. A controller operates each valve to control flow of the compressible fluid within the fluid strut to obtain an infinitely variable self-centering suspension system.

  • Publication number: 20060170175
Abstract: A suspension for a steering axle includes two links extending from the axle laterally inwardly to be attached to a lateral shackle plate. The lateral shackle plate is pivotally attached to the vehicle frame. The links may be two separate members, or may be a single V-shaped member. The links operate to transfer lateral loads between the two sides of a vehicle receiving the suspension.

  • Publication number: 20060001311
Abstract: An air suspension system for a non-drive steering axle includes a set of air springs supported on an axle beam extending between a pair of rotating wheels. The axle beam defines a lateral axis about which the wheels rotate. A lateral stiffener assembly cooperates with the axle beam, which provides torsional stiffness, to provide high lateral stiffness in the air suspension system. The lateral stiffener assembly includes a first arm that extends from the axle beam transverse to the lateral axis and is positioned on one lateral side of the vehicle. A second arm extends from the axle beam transverse to the lateral axis and is positioned on an opposite lateral side of the vehicle. Each of the first and second arms has one arm end supported by the axle beam and an opposite arm end mounted to a vehicle frame member.

  • Publication number: 20050184477
Abstract: A suspension system includes a fluid strut, an accumulator and a reservoir. The accumulator and reservoir are in fluid communication with the fluid strut through an accumulator valve and a reservoir valve respectively. A fluid pump pressurizes the accumulator with a incompressible fluid stored in the reservoir. A piston valve is located within the piston to selectively permit fluid communication between a high pressure side and a low pressure side of the piston. A controller operates each valve and the fluid pump to control flow of the incompressible fluid within the to obtain an infinitely variable self centering suspension system.

  • Publication number: 20050145424
Abstract: The inventive parallel drive system is particularly well suited to be supported at the axle of the vehicle. A coupling arrangement includes a clutching mechanism and a gear reduction device that selectively couple an electric motor to the drive wheels for providing torque to the wheels alone or in combination with input from an internal combustion engine. The drive torque can also be provided exclusively from the internal combustion engine. The inventive arrangement also allows for the electric motor to be used as a generator during coasting or braking, for example.

  • Publication number: 20050077665
Abstract: A suspension system includes a composite leaf spring having a mounting segment of a tapered width combined with an expanding depth. Any position along the longitudinal length of the mounting segment provides a singular cross-sectional shape taken parallel to an axle beam. An axle beam attachment system defines a cavity having a shape equivalent to the leaf spring at the predetermined location for mechanically interlocking the axle beam attachment system with the leaf spring at that predetermined location.

  • Publication number: 20050051934
Abstract: A suspension system includes a composite leaf spring attachment system having a bracket, a mount and a shear damper mounted therebetween. The mount is rectilinear in cross-section to receive a rearward leaf spring segment of the composite leaf spring. During flexing of the leaf spring, the rearward leaf spring segment of the leaf spring slides within the mount. The shear damper in combination with sliding of the leaf spring through the mount accommodates this longitudinal lengthen during flexing. Also, due to the width of the of the leaf spring segment the shear damper may alternatively be utilized alone to accommodate the flexing of the leaf spring as the significant width of the composite leaf spring provides a large mounting platform for a significantly large shear damper heretofore unavailable with relatively thin conventional steel leaf springs.

  • Publication number: 20050051933
Abstract: A suspension system includes a composite leaf spring having an arcuate segment that is located between a retaining pin and a bumper. The retaining pin includes a shank surrounded by a resilient tube. The bumper is located adjacent a rear wall of the bracket opposite the retaining pin. The bumper includes an arcuate face to engage the outer arc of the arcuate segment while the pin is at least partially surrounded by the arcuate segment. The end of the composite leaf spring is thereby securely yet resiliently retained within the front leaf spring attachment system without penetrating fasteners.
