  • Patent number: 9422435
Abstract: The present invention relates to a coating composition that provides improved scratch and stain resistance. The coating composition includes a curable film-forming resin having at least two multi-functional (meth)acrylates and a plurality of particles dispersed within the resin, said particles comprising (i) inorganic nanoparticles and (ii) wear resistant mineral particles. The wear resistant mineral particles have an average particle size of greater than 3.5 microns.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2013
Date of Patent: August 23, 2016
    Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.
    Inventor: David Posey
  • Patent number: 9353271
Abstract: A low-gloss coating composition is disclosed. The coating composition comprises a unique blend of particles, including untreated silica and organic treated silica and wax treated silica. The use of these particles in combination provides for a significant reduction in the weight percent of certain particles that can impart a suitable level of gloss to a coating. The particles can be included, for example, in a urethane acrylate binder that can be cured using UV radiation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 13, 2013
Date of Patent: May 31, 2016
    Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20120301738
Abstract: Compositions are provided that include a film-forming resin, a colorant, and a plurality of organic solvents. The organic solvents have a weight average relative evaporation rate, relative to n-butyl acetate, of from 3.0 to 5.0. The compositions have a low level of volatile organic compounds (VOC) according to the definition set forth in 40 CFR Part 51.100(s) (as amended through Jan. 21, 2009). Also provided are methods for coloring a wood substrate with such compositions and multi-layer composite coating systems comprising at least one coating layer deposited from such compositions.
