  • Publication number: 20140059308
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to data migration and/or disaster recovery. One embodiment enables merging of bitmaps to allow for automation of the process of switching to a different target volume on the same storage subsystem without major interruption of data recovery capability and limited interruption of host I/O to the source volumes during the migration. In one approach, the migration of data onto a new target volume within the same storage subsystem as the original target volume is automated, without requiring the user to manually create or remove any new copy relationships.

  • Publication number: 20130318317
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for adding point-in-time copy relationships to a data processing system. A request is received to establish a first point-in-time copy relationship. Responsive to determining that a first target of the first point-in-time copy relationship is target write inhibited, that a source of the first point-in-time copy relationship is a source of a first continuous synchronous copy relationship, that a target of the first continuous synchronous copy relationship is part of a second point-in-time copy relationship, and that the source of the first point-in-time copy relationship is part of a volume swap configuration, a volume swap relationship is added between the first point-in-time target volume and the second point-in-time target volume to the volume swap configuration.

  • Patent number: 8095827
Abstract: A method for replicating a volume of data including selecting a target storage box to receive a physical copy of the actual volume of data stored on the source storage box for replication of the actual volume of data, selecting a point in time storage box to receive a physical copy of actual data stored on the target storage box, physically copying actual data stored on the target storage box to the point in time storage box, performing the replication of the actual volume of data by initiating the physical copying on the target storage box of the actual volume of data, and selectively undoing the physical copying on the target storage box of the actual volume of data by replacing the current actual data stored on the target storage box with the physical copy of actual target storage box data stored on the point in time storage box.

  • Patent number: 7657714
Abstract: A method is disclosed to provide commands to an information storage and retrieval comprising one or more data storage devices, where one or more first communication links interconnect one or more host computers and the data storage and retrieval system. The method supplies a computing device, where that computing device is external to the data storage and retrieval system, and where that computing device is external to each of the one or more host computers. Applicants' method further supplies a second communication link interconnecting the computing device and the data storage and retrieval system. The computing device generates a command signal, where said command signal comprises one or more command control words and a header. The computing device then provides that command signal to the data storage and retrieval system via the second communication link.

  • Publication number: 20090319945
Abstract: A data replication management interface is provided for selecting a state for replicating data from one site to another site. A pictorial representation of and/or a command line for multiple states is displayed. A pictorial representation of a current state is displayed. Each one of the multiple states respectively corresponds to multiple steps to accomplish each one of the multiple states. The multiple states are configured to be individually selected. An individual selection of one of the multiple states causes the multiple steps for the individual selection to be accomplished. The individual selection of one of the multiple states is selected by a user without requiring the user to choose any of the multiple steps to accomplish the individual selection.

  • Publication number: 20090150459
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and system for performing a high availability consistency heartbeat function from multiple consistency managers in a networked data storage system. A secondary consistency manager is utilized to send a heartbeat and manage data replication if the primary consistency manager is unable to successfully send a heartbeat to the replicating storage devices. The secondary consistency manager sends this heartbeat with an identifier identical to the heartbeat previously sent by the primary consistency manager. When the primary consistency manager returns to the network, it can resume its active, controlling role, or the primary consistency manager may swap roles with the now-active secondary consistency manager.

  • Publication number: 20090132753
Abstract: A method for replicating a volume of data including UNDO and REDO data replication commands includes identifying a current state of the database through a point in time (PIT) copy of all volumes to be affected, ensuring that enough storage volume is identified to carry out the point in time copies and if not, the appropriate user warning issued notifying the user that the UNDO or REDO functions will not be available for a particular session.

  • Publication number: 20090063575
Abstract: Modeling a set of images representing a group of data replication states and displaying, to a customer, the group of data replication states and generating the model that graphically displays a copy solution; including creating an image data modeling definition, where the image data modeling definition includes a definition of the set of images representing the group of data replication states. The method also includes creating a group of dynamic images, using the definition of the set of images representing the group of data replication states included in the image data modeling definition, where creating the group of dynamic images includes: specifying how to draw site and role specific parts of the group of dynamic images and specifying how to draw arrows that connect each role of the group of dynamic images.
