  • Publication number: 20150232241
Abstract: A multi-layer control device or one-way valve (100) includes: a first layer (10) having at least one first opening (12) formed therein; and a second layer (20). The first and second layers are joined together such that at least one channel (24) is defined therebetween, which channel selectively permits gas flow from the first opening out of the device/valve. In operation, the valve selectively opens to permit gas flow through the channel in response to a pressure differential on opposing sides of the valve, wherein the pressure differential sufficient to open the valve (?Po) dynamically varies over time. Suitably, a material is arranged in the channel which experiences a change that precipitates the dynamic variation of ?Po.

  • Publication number: 20110253232
Abstract: A multi-layer valve is provided for allowing oxygen to enter a package while maintaining a level of fluid and leak resistance. The multi-layer valve includes a first layer of adhesive that has a top and bottom face with the bottom face being adhered to a release liner. A permeable layer is provided over the first layer of adhesive, a second layer of adhesive that has a top and bottom face. The bottom face of the first adhesive layer is adhered to the permeable layer and the top face of the first adhesive layer is adhered to a cover layer such that the bottom face of the second layer of adhesive is separable from the permeable layer while the top face of the second layer of adhesive maintains adhesion with the cover layer.

  • Patent number: 5754447
Abstract: A process for predicting the structural performance of a mechanical system represents the mechanical system by a plurality of surface elements. The surface elements are grouped according to their location in the volume occupied by the mechanical system so that contacts between surface elements can be efficiently located. The process is well suited for efficient practice on multiprocessor computers.

  • Patent number: 4340611
Abstract: A process for removing hulls from soybeans comprises the steps of placing the soybeans in an atmosphere of reduced pressure, subjecting the beans to microwave energy while the beans are within the atmosphere of reduced pressure, removing a portion of the moisture from the beans until the moisture content of the soybeans is about 7.46 to about 10% on a wet basis, removing the soybeans from the atmosphere of reduced pressure, the temperature of the soybeans leaving the reduced pressure atmosphere being at least 110.degree. F. and less than 160.degree. F., immediately cracking the hulls of the hot soybeans without tempering, and removing the hulls from the hot soybeans.
