  • Publication number: 20120248034
Abstract: Filtration media for filtering a liquid includes a plurality of fibers having a coating thereon of a fluorine containing compound. Also disclosed are processes for forming fibrous non-woven liquid filtration media having the coating of the fluorine containing compound. Suitable fluorine containing compounds generally include fluoropolymers, fluorinated hydrocarbons, fluoroacrylate polymers, and the like. The liquid filtration media having the coating of the fluorine containing compound provides markedly improved dirt holding capacity and efficiency properties, among others.

  • Patent number: 8041664
Abstract: Execution of functions by a non-human being is achieved by providing the non-human being with an I/O interface for receiving information, and permitting the non-human being to execute functions consistent with the abilities of the non-human being. An input/output interface is used to provide the non-human being with sensory information and to accept control information from the non-human being. An input/output processing system converts signals communicated through the input/output interface. An operation control interface is used for controlling the functions executed by the non-human being.

  • Publication number: 20020058179
Abstract: The present invention provides a flexible pyrolyzed carbon fiber matrix, suitable for use as a fuel cell electrode substrate. The product is characterized by controlled microporosity and is at least partially hydrophobic. The product is made by a continuous, high speed, high volume manufacturing process, which permits wide variability in such parameters as basis weight (50-150 gm/m2), caliper (140-400 m2 at 5 Kpa), density (0.300-0.480 gm/cm3), and resistivity (200-1000 mOhm-cm through plane and 15-65 mOhm-cm in plane). This matrix, unlike current electrode substrates, is flexible and can be made as roll goods. Comparative testing in fuel cell applications has demonstrated that this electrode substrate performs comparably to currently available electrode substrates. A fuel cell equipped with the present electrode substrate will produce a polarization curve which is virtually the same as that produced by a fuel cell equipped with a conventional electrode substrate.

  • Patent number: 5595659
Abstract: A filter material for removing chlorine from cold water used in preparing a human-consumable beverage having at least one layer of a mat of laid fibers of cellulosic fibers and synthetic textile fibers and mixtures thereof. A synthetic hydrophilic, food-grade latex binder deposited onto the fibers within the mat in an amount sufficient to so bind the fibers together within the mat that during a filtration of cold water through the mat no substantial amount of fibers are displaced therefrom and in an amount insufficient to substantially reduce a gravity flow rate of cold water through the mat to less than about 0.3 liter per minute per 100 square centimeters of the mat. A water-insoluble chlorine adsorbent or absorbent solid powder disposed on the binder such that no more than 65% of the total outside surface area of the powder is substantially contacted by the binder.

  • Patent number: 5308298
Abstract: A hydraulic control system for a continuously-variable-ratio-vehicle transmission of the toroidal-race rolling-traction type, in which the mechanism for positioning each roller includes a double-acting ram (11). The two opposed faces of the ram are exposed in normal use to the pressures of two separate lines of fluid (21, 23), each being pressure-controlled by separate valves (32, 34) located downstream of the respective ram face. The outputs of those separate valves combine in a common region (31), and further valve means (40, 41) open to connect that region to each line in response to the occurrence of a predetermined difference in pressure between the region and that line. In such circumstances such connection and the resulting transfer of fluid from the region to the line helps to counteract any tendency to fluid starvation in the line.
