  • Patent number: 10007023
Abstract: A system and method for downhole switching of wellbore logging tools is disclosed. The method includes lowering a logging tool in a wellbore tubular, and actuating a mechanical interference device based on interaction with a first mechanical intrusion associated with a screen assembly located downhole in a wellbore. The mechanical interference device is included in an activator module associated with the logging tool. Based on actuating the mechanical interference device, the method includes communicating a first trigger indication to a switching system included with the activator module. In response to the first trigger indication, the method further includes switching the logging tool between an inactive state and an active state. In the active state, an electrical load associated with the logging tool is energized by a power supply.

  • Patent number: 8818776
Abstract: A disclosed method of downhole tool system development comprises: receiving specifications of a downhole tool system that comprises multiple strings, each string having one or more components; and checking for interference between the multiple strings in an initial position. A disclosed system comprises: a memory that stores software; and a processor coupled to the memory to execute the software. The software causes the processor to provide a graphical user interface that enables a user to specify a downhole tool system having multiple strings, and to test the strings for diametrical overlap attributable to relative motion of the strings.

  • Patent number: 5429190
Abstract: A detector structure is used to sense and log the joints in a downhole jointed tubular structure, such as a well bore casing or production tubing, in a subterranean well. The detector is moved through the jointed tubular structure on an elongated positioning member, representatively a slick line, through a series of joints to be logged. As the detector passes through each joint it electromagnetically senses the joint and responsively generates an electric output signal. The output signal is used to momentarily cause a drag structure portion of the detector, in cooperation with the interior side surface of the tubular structure, to momentarily create a detectable tension change in the elongated positioning member. Alternatively, a pyrotechnic or compressed gas device may be used to create the detectable changes in response to the generation of the electrical output signals.

  • Patent number: 5305649
Abstract: A measuring device for measuring length of flexible line moved through the device along with tensile force in moving or stationary line. The device has a grooved counterwheel and pressure wheels pressing the line into a groove around the counterwheel and includes adjusters for adjusting the pressing force exerted by each pressure wheel on the line. A load cell mounted on the device is used to measure the resultant force on the counterwheel from tensile force in the line. A counter or counterdrive is connectible to the counterwheel shaft.
