  • Patent number: 5407063
Abstract: An adjustable socket tray for visually displaying a socket for selection of the socket size and/or a fastener tightening strategy wherein the socket is restrained by a movable "V" block to retain the socket about a centerline incident with a sensor to determine the selection of the socket.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 1994
Date of Patent: April 18, 1995
    Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand Company
Inventors: Donald R. Warner, David R. Melrose
  • Patent number: 5405025
Abstract: An adjustable socket tray for use in assembly operations wherein the tray is provided with movable partitions to selectively store sockets of different diameter and effect notification to a controller of a selected socket for establishing appropriate conditions of fastener tightening via the socket selection process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 1994
Date of Patent: April 11, 1995
    Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand Company
    Inventor: David R. Melrose
  • Patent number: 5225727
Abstract: A modular reverse switch assembly having a rotating disc actuation member with a plurality of extending tabs which are spaced apart to project to opposite sides of the tool thereby permitting ease of operation by either hand. The modular design permits a wide degree of selection in assembly location and practice.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 20, 1991
Date of Patent: July 6, 1993
    Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand Company

  • Patent number: 5172774
Abstract: A high sensitivity torque transducer capable of installation between the motor and the output reduction gear train in the housing of a rotating machine, which has a limited axial space therefor, has a disk shaped first member fixed to a fixed portion of the housing. A disk shaped second member has splined coupling with the first member and the second member to provide sliding coupling with a floating portion of an output drive train. This coupling transfers reaction torque back from the output shaft, through the drive train, and into the second member. Shear webs are formed between the inner and outer diameters of the second member by removing some material to form torsion concentrator voids. Strain gages mounted on the shear webs and bridged with appropriate resistors provide an output signal in response to torsional strains imposed on the second disk shaped member. The output signal is routed to a calibrated signal processor and relay control unit.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4577661
Abstract: An ultra fast-acting shut-off valve utilizing a slotted spool in registry with a slotted sleeve which provides full opening with an extremely short valve throw. The valve may be operated by any suitable actuator. An electric solenoid is provided in the preferred embodiment described, making it compatible with electronic micro-processor control systems.
