Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a system for enabling wireless communication for a vehicle is provided. At least one controller to generate first information for the vehicle for transmission to at least one surrounding vehicle or an infrastructure external to the vehicle and to receive second information. The remote active antenna assembly to receive the first information over a cable and wirelessly receive over a wireless communication protocol, a control indicative of the remote active antenna assembly being in one of a transmit mode or a receive mode. The remote active antenna assembly to wirelessly transmit, via a remote active element, the first information in response to the control signal indicating that the remote active assembly is in the transmit mode and to wirelessly receive, via the remote active element, the second information in response to the control signal indicating that the remote active assembly is in the receive mode.

  • Publication number: 20220132289
Abstract: A system and method are described for transmission of an emergency message from a host vehicle. The system includes a communication unit to be mounted in the host vehicle and configured to transmit a vehicle-to-x communication including data indicative of the host vehicle. The system also includes controller to be mounted in the host vehicle and provided in communication with the communication unit. In response to an indication of an accident involving the host vehicle and an indication that a cellular communication unit mounted in the host vehicle is inoperative, the controller is configured to generate an emergency message for transmission by the communication unit.

  • Patent number: 11198386
Abstract: A system and method are described for controlling operation of host vehicle headlights. The system includes a communication unit to receive a vehicle-to-x communication including data indicative of a characteristic of a second vehicle. The system also includes a controller to determine that a high-beam is generated by the host vehicle headlights, determine a state of the second vehicle based on the second vehicle characteristic data, determine a state of the host vehicle based on data indicative of a characteristic of the host vehicle, determine that a pre-defined condition exists involving the host vehicle and second vehicle based on the second vehicle state and the host vehicle state, and, in response to the determination that the high-beam is generated and the pre-defined condition exists, generate a headlight control signal that effectuates an automatic change of the host vehicle headlights from a high-beam to a low-beam operating state.

  • Patent number: 7561394
Abstract: An overvoltage protection system and method including a control circuit and a bank of resistors to absorb the energy from a transient voltage without exceeding an allowed temperature for the resistors. The resistors in the bank are independently switched and configured such that upon detection of an overvoltage condition a combination of the resistors is switched into the circuit to dissipate energy. The resistance introduced by the combination of resistors prevents the voltage from rising to an unacceptable level that may damage the circuit being protected. As time progresses, the control circuit alters the combination of resistors in the bank of resistors so as to increase the effective load resistance value, thereby decreasing a load current.
