  • Publication number: 20080097734
Abstract: A global software development model instrument is described. The instrument utilizes a global system dynamics model, as well as one or more site-specific discrete event simulation and system dynamics models to model interactions within and between software development sites. Parameters, equations, and interactions between the model components are editable to allow for the simulation and comparison of various software development options and to provide for global software development research. Additional product development situations can be modeled as well, including hardware and systems engineering.

  • Publication number: 20060101383
Abstract: A bi-directional software development process simulation model is described. The model simulates the stages of a software development process, taking advantage of equations relating to defect injection and detection along with parameters describing detection and injection rates. By simulating the development process in the forward direction, predictions can be made for process outcomes. By simulating in the reverse direction, defect detection requirements can be found for each stage of the model to achieve a given desired performance result. Outcome-based control levels are utilized with the model in order to better detect whether a process is out of control and should be corrected. By going between the forward and reverse simulation directions, control of the process can be fine-tuned as defect detection data is obtained during process execution.

  • Publication number: 20050160103
Abstract: A generalized software process simulation model is utilized to simulate software engineering processes and support project management and control. The simulation model takes advantage of generic software modeling blocks which represent differing stages or activities in a software development process and are represented in modeling environment. The generic software modeling blocks are also used to represent sub-processes and activities within higher-level processes. The blocks also provide dialog boxes which allow entering and adjustment of data and equations. Through manipulation of blocks and comparisons of simulations, a project manager can simulate and observe the outcome of different process decisions. Additional simulation capabilities are possible, as software engineering is one example of the technology.

  • Patent number: 6309274
Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnetic drive and clutch assembly, especially to an assembly suitable for use in radio or remote-controlled toys and model vehicles. There is described a magnetic drive for a wheel or other rotating body comprising (i) a motor assembly (23) coupled to an axle (30) carrying a housing (14) carrying at least one drive magnet (15) of a chosen polarity, and (ii) a wheel (27) or other rotating body including at least one wheel magnet (9) of the opposite polarity; the motor assembly and wheel (or other rotating body) being mounted for support such that the drive (15) and wheel (9) magnets are positioned adjacently axially with a spacing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5244124
Abstract: A container 12, for example for containing herbicide for delivery means of a hand-held applicator, has a guide rib 84 for assisting guidance of the container 12 with respect to a handset 2 of the applicator as the container 12 is fitted to the handset 2. The container 12 also has a latching recess 20 for cooperation with a latching element 44 provided in the handset, to retain the container 12 with respect to the handset. The rib 84 tapers in the direction from a base 66 of the container towards an outlet 16, so that the fit between the rib 84 and a slot 24 in a guide 22 on the handset becomes progressively tighter as the container is inserted.
