Patent number: 9336493Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for clustering time series based on forecast distributions. A method for clustering time series based on forecast distributions may include: receiving time series data relating to one or more aspects of a physical process; applying a forecasting model to the time series data to generate forecasted values and confidence intervals associated with the forecasted values, the confidence intervals being generated based on distribution information relating to the forecasted values; generating a distance matrix that identifies divergence in the forecasted values, the distance matrix being generated based the distribution information relating to the forecasted values; and performing a clustering operation on the plurality of forecasted values based on the distance matrix. The distance matrix may be generated using a symmetric Kullback-Leibler divergence algorithm.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2011Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: SAS Institute Inc.Inventors: Taiyeong Lee, David Rawlins Duling

Patent number: 8296224Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for generating bins for a scorecard. An approximate set of bins is generated by applying an optimization model to binning data. The optimization model includes an objective function, constraints, and surrogate weight of evidence metric(s). The approximated set of bins are then used in scorecard operations.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2008Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: SAS Institute Inc.Inventors: Ivan Borges Oliveira, Manoj Keshavmurthi Chari, David Rawlins Duling, Susan Edwards Haller, Robert William Pratt

Patent number: 8190612Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for creating a cluster structure from a data set containing input variables. Global clusters are created within a first stage, by computing a similarity matrix from the data set. A global cluster structure and sub-cluster structure are created within a second stage, where the global cluster structure and the sub-cluster structure are created using a latent variable clustering technique and the cluster structure output is generated by combining the created global cluster structure and the created sub-cluster structure.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2008Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: SAS Institute Inc.Inventors: Taiyeong Lee, David Rawlins Duling, Dominique Joseph Latour

Patent number: 4859709Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising a freely flowable powder, the powder comprising a porous, high absorption silica or silicate having absorbed therein at least 10% by volume of a liquid, pharmaceutically active composition, based on the weight of powder plus liquid, provided that when the liquid pharmaceutically active composition is a corticoid solution the silica or silicate has a mean particle size of at least 10 .mu.m in diameter.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1987Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Beecham Group plcInventor: David A. Patent number: 4837886Abstract: A pool cleaning device comprises a housing defining a chamber therein having a rudder and an air injector. When air is injected into the chamber, the housing rises from the pool bottom to the surface. The device further includes a float valve which causes the air in the chamber to escape when the device reaches the surface of the water. The housing has a port communicating with the water in the pool for letting in water to replace the air escaping through the float valve, causing the device to sink to the pool bottom after the air has been released from the chamber. The rudder causes the housing to move laterally during its ascent and descent. A brush attached to the housing scrubs the side wall and bottom of the pool. The ascent and descent of the device also causes the rudder to operate a gear mechanism causing the housing to rotate relative to the pool, thereby ensuring that the device will move laterally in different directions to cover the entire pool and to retrieve itself from corners.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1987Date of Patent: June 13, 1989Inventor: David Rawlins
