Abstract: A system controls electrical devices associated with a property such as a domestic dwelling. The system includes a local area network to provide a facility for communicating with the electrical devices and includes a wireless access gateway. Mobile devices include a transmitter and a receiver for communicating with the wireless access gateway. A controller connected to the network detects a relative location of the mobile devices depending on whether the mobile devices can communicate via the wireless access gateway. A data store stores an indication of an operating state for the electrical devices. A setting for the electrical devices is selected as a function of a relative location of the mobile devices with respect to the property. The controller, in response to a change in the location of the mobile device, changes the operating state of the electrical devices in accordance with the setting and to update the operating state.
