  • Patent number: 5038985
Abstract: The adjustable tape measure clip includes a strip of spring steel folded over to form a primary spring with opposing leaves, the inner leaf being adapted for attachment to the case of the tape measure. The inner leaf includes a secondary spring for adjusting the spring force of the primary spring on the leaves of the clip. A mounting screw, which mounts the spring clip onto the case of the tape measure, also engages the secondary spring on the inner leaf to adjust the secondary spring force on the primary spring. As the screw is rotated, the secondary spring varies the primary spring force and thus adjusts the free clip width between the leaves to either increase or decrease the gripping pressure of the clip on the user's apparel.

  • Patent number: 4998356
Abstract: A tape measure is disclosed wherein the measuring tape can be locked into, and unlocked from, a desired position by action of a "push on-push off" button mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4958435
Abstract: A device for ripping fabric includes two blades which act together in a scissor like fashion. A handle is rigidly attached to one of the blades. The movement of the handle back and forth causes a scissor like action between the blades. After the cut has been started, the device may be pushed through the fabric.

  • Patent number: 4938430
Abstract: The tape measure includes a lock for locking the tape in an extended position from its case. The lock includes a toggle pivotably mounted on the case and a lock shoe extending from one end of the toggle to a position adjacent the tape. When the toggle is depressed, the lock shoe is forced against the tape so as to wedge the tape between the lock shoe and the case to prevent its retraction. The lock shoe includes a series of opposed recesses to permit the lock shoe to compress in length upon engagement with the tape. The lock shoe also includes a bend which translates the diagonal movement of the toggle into a vertical movement of the lock shoe.

  • Patent number: 4927092
Abstract: A locking system for a tape measure includes a locking pad located inside the case in which the coiled tape measure is contained. As the tape is dispensed from its case, the locking pad locks the tape against the inside of the housing. When it is desired to unlock the tape, a force from the side of the tape housing causes the locking pad to lift out of its position in contact with the tape. The tape is then recoiled into the housing.

  • Patent number: 4881894
Abstract: A self-igniting portable torch includes source of electrical potential mounted on the outside of the torch tip downstream of the orifice in a heat resistant housing and an electrode which extends into the mixing chamber. The source of electrical potential and the electrode are electrically coupled by a connector contained entirely within the torch tip.

  • Patent number: 4805301
Abstract: A tool for stripping insulation or cladding from a conductor includes a pair of oppositely opposed notched cutting blades which are mounted in blade holders. The blade holders are guided into contact with the insulation or cladding by slots contained in a housing and stopped before the cutting blades contact the conductor. The movement of the cutting blades into contact with the insulation is caused by the squeezing of a pair of handles which are resiliently mounted within a housing. The central portion of the housing includes a slot for measuring the length of insulation or cladding to be stripped from the conductor.
