Patent number: 8606346Abstract: A method of thermally inducing and monitoring changes to localized regions of tissue by illuminating a volume of tissue with a first beam of X-rays, detecting portions of the first beam that passed through the volume, generating a first image signal from the portions of the first beam detected, applying heat to at least a localized region of tissue within the volume after the illuminating and detecting, illuminating the volume with a second beam of X-rays, detecting portions of the second beam that passed through the volume during the illuminating with the second beam, generating a second image signal from the portions of the second beam detected, and generating a difference image signal based upon a comparison of the first and second image signals. The difference image signal provides information of changes in X-ray attenuation by localized regions of tissue within the volume due to the application of heat.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2011Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: University of MiamiInventors: Jean-Marie Parel, Fabrice Manns, David S. Patent number: 6098949Abstract: A mounting arrangement for attaching a hydraulic control unit of a vehicular braking system to a vehicle body includes a mounting stud attached to and extending axially outward from the hydraulic control unit. The mounting stud also includes axially and laterally extending surfaces. A bracket is secured to a selected portion of the vehicle body. The bracket is provided with a mounting arm having a hole through which the mounting stud extends. The bracket also includes a recessed portion surrounding the hole and axially spaced from a main portion of the arm. The recessed portion and the main portion are connected by a transitional portion. A grommet is located between the mounting arm and the mounting stud. The grommet engages both the recessed portion and the transitional portion of the mounting arm and engages the axially and laterally extending surfaces of the mounting stud for supporting the hydraulic control unit in both axial and lateral directions.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Kelsey Hayes CompanyInventor: David S. Patent number: 5482362Abstract: An anti-lock brake system control valve having a removable coil support module mounted upon a valve body is disclosed. The module is divided into a first portion which carries solenoid coils for actuating valves in the valve body and a second sealed portion which carries an external electrical connector. The solenoid coils have lead wires extending into the second sealed portion where the lead wires are electrically joined to the external connector. The electrical connector connects the control valve to other electrical components of the anti-lock brake system. The module is readily accessible and removable for servicing. The module is separated from the brake system hydraulic circuit and can be removed from the valve body without disruption of the hydraulic circuit.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1995Date of Patent: January 9, 1996Assignee: Kelsey-Hayes CompanyInventor: David S. Patent number: 4447185Abstract: A container tipping apparatus has a carrier member rotatably mounted to a coupling link which, in turn, is rotatably mounted to a support post. The carrier member is engaged with a container to be tipped. The carrier member is rotatable freely relative to the coupling link as the coupling link is rotated from its lowest extreme position to an intermediate position below its elevated extreme position. Accordingly, the carrier member is free to rotate relative to the coupling link and in a direction which is opposite to the direction the coupling link is initially rotated so that the carrier member initially lifts the container, in a substantially vertical manner, off of a conveyance which transports the container.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1980Date of Patent: May 8, 1984Assignee: Mhlume (Swaziland) Sugar Company LimitedInventors: David S. Robinson, Rupert M. Taylor

Patent number: 3990651Abstract: A vehicle acceleration sensitive locking device is disclosed for use with a conventional safety belt retractor having a shaft mounted ratchet. The locking device includes a pivotally mounted pawl normally spaced from the ratchet by a preselected distance and an inertial mass pivotally mounted to sense change in vehicle velocity above a level predetermined to be dangerous. Movement of the inertial mass displaces the pawl to its operate position to block rotation of the ratchet and the safety belt retractor shaft and, thereby, prevent protraction of the safety belt when the change in vehicle velocity exceeds the predetermined level. The device further includes adjustment means operative to limit movement of the pawl away from the ratchet when the pawl is in its inoperative position to determine the normal spacing between said pawl and ratchet.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: Louis Romanzi, David S.
