  • Patent number: 4928140
Abstract: A high speed aperture card printer and method include a rotatable glass cylinder temporarily to transport aperture cards fed one directly after the other onto the cylinder. The aperture cards are tightly held against the cylinder by parallel endless belts positioned on either side of the microfilm carried by the aperture card so as to leave one surface of the microfilm uncovered. The printer includes an optics system passing light radially outwardly through the rotating glass cylinder and the microfilm transported thereby optically to scan images on the microfilm for printing copies thereof on plain paper.

  • Patent number: 4924259
Abstract: A broad magnification ratio range, microform to paper printing system includes a fixed focal length objective lens, a selectively adjustable short zoom mirror assembly, a selectively adjustable long zoom mirror assembly and optical switching means selectively to exclude or include the long zoom mirror assembly to provide the optical path length needed for the magnification ratio selected. The printing system may include an aperture shutter assembly positioned immediately adjacent the image slit of the optical system, the aperture shutter assembly having two blades operative to set the aperture width therebetween to control drum exposure and also operative selectively to close the aperture therebetween to block drum exposure.

  • Patent number: 4897687
Abstract: A roll microfilm printer and method includes preview optics sequentially to scan microfilm images for temporarily recording at least edge location and background density data and printing optics sequentially to print the microfilm images onto plain paper with masking and exposure control based upon the prerecorded data from the preview optics. The preview optics include a sensor board having an array of photo diode sensors to receive a light beam that sequentially passes through microfilm images contained on the moving microfilm strip, the optically sensed data from the images is electronically converted and temporarily recorded for use in subsequently controlling the printing optics. The printing optics includes a high speed mask assembly positioned adjacent the moving microfilm strip, the mask assembly having two high speed stepper motors controlled in accordance with the prerecorded data to drive edge masks toward or away from one another to mask unused image areas.

  • Patent number: 4860060
Abstract: A microfiche printing system and method includes an optical system operative to scan and temporarily record microfiche image edge data on a high speed row scanning stroke of a microfiche sheet and to print the row of microfiche images onto plain paper on a printing stroke of the microfiche sheet using the temporarily recorded data automatically to control microfiche image masking. The optics system includes a shutter/mirror assembly having a shutter movable between an open position for printing microfiche images aligned with the optics in the printing stroke and a closed position to block the light path of the optics system edge masking functions in the printing stroke and for diverting the image for edge sensing functions in the scanning stroke.

  • Patent number: 4842402
Abstract: A projection and viewing apparatus having a hollow housing with an open top and front and back walls is also provided with an optical system carriage which is mounted within the housing for rotational movement with respect to the housing. This carriage is capable of rotation from an upright position to a substantially horizontal position. The carriage is composed of a lower portion which is mounted to the housing for the rotational movement and an upper portion which is pivotally mounted with respect to the lower portion so as to be able to move from an extended position in which the upper and lower positions define the operational carriage, to a retracted position in which either the upper or lower portion is withdrawn into the other. Provision is made for locking the upper and lower portions together in the extended position. The lower carriage portion is provided with a depth dimension which is no greater than the distance between the front and rear walls of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4601572
Abstract: A system for producing images of documents is disclosed. The system provides varying levels of illumination to different areas of the document being recorded, depending upon relative image densities across the document. A slit aperture image area is divided into a plurality of illumination zones and the image density of each zone is sensed and adjusted individually. Efficient and orderly unattended off-loading of photographed documents is accomplished by a movable drawing member over which large documents are automatically draped, properly collated. A catch tray is provided for automatically off-loading and collating smaller documents.

  • Patent number: 4349163
Abstract: A roll of film is formed without a spool or core and the innermost end of the roll of film is formed into a closed loop of predetermined diameter. In a film viewing device, in which film is normally transported from a supply shaft to a take-up shaft, the supply shaft is provided with an adaptor which is mounted thereon for rotation therewith and is resiliently biased to be radially expandable from a diameter smaller than to a diameter larger than the predefined diameter. The roll film structure is mounted on the adaptor and the resilient biasing of the adaptor then forces it radially outward against the closed loop and securely holds the roll film for take-up.

  • Patent number: 4213696
Abstract: A scan mechanism for a microfilm reader/printer couples the stationary image of a microfilm reader to a rotating drum of a printer and maintains a conjugate length of a slit image path fixed and also maintains the angle of the slit image path normal to the axis of the stationary image path across the entire format.

  • Patent number: 4136938
Abstract: An optical projection apparatus having foldable mirror members which permit the apparatus to be folded into a rigid, compact assembly for ease of installation and transportation. The apparatus comprises a double triangulated optical mirror structure which is interdependently mounted with the projector and screen without reference to the base section. The double triangulated structure provides the required optical rigidity while also folding or collapsing of the apparatus to reduce critical outer dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4116560
Abstract: A document microfilming system for information retrieval is provided having photographic apparatus for recording of series of documents on microfilm and identifier indicia printing means for applying an identifying number to the documents or sets of documents. The photographic apparatus comprises means auxiliary to that forming images of the documents on the film strip for forming a designator image on the film strip in adjacent, proximate relationship to images of selected documents. The identifier indicia imprinting means applies an identifying number to each primary document and also applies the same number to all sub-documents associated with that primary document.
