Patent number: 12187404Abstract: A variable density airship lift chamber system for airships provides more efficient lift control. The airship lift chamber system includes at least one lift chamber filled with lift gas and configured to provide lifting force, a heat exchanger configured to heat the lift gas in the at least one lift chamber, a compressor unit configured to withdraw the lift gas from the lift chamber and to compress the withdrawn lift gas, a pressure tank configured to store the withdrawn compressed lift gas from the compressor unit, a refrigeration orifice formed in the lift chamber, and a valve that connects the pressure tank to lift chamber through the refrigeration orifice. The airship lift chamber system controls density of the lift gas in the lift chamber by heating the gas while removing the gas from the lift chamber and by supplying gas into the lift chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2023Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: FOI Group, LLCInventors: David Munson, Jr., David Shawn Flatt

Patent number: 11703066Abstract: This invention is a portable pneumatically driven pressure intensifying positive displacement hydraulic power unit that can be transported in a bag or backpack and carried or worn by the user. The device can be powered by any suitable high pressure gas that is preferably contained in a small pressure vessel for portability. The device can be used to supply high pressure hydraulic fluid to tools with a wide range of uses in many fields including construction, industrial, breaching, and emergency service situations. This novel device does not require an electric or fuel powered hydraulic fluid pumping system, which allows it to be very portable and used in almost any environment (e.g., hazardous atmosphere or under water) without being tethered to an electric or fuel powered power source.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2021Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: FOI GROUP, INC.Inventor: David Shawn Flatt

Patent number: 10364387Abstract: This invention is a subterranean (non-hydraulic) shock fracturing system and process for fracturing oil and gas bearing formations. The system delivers small amounts of precisely placed explosive charges into the formation. These charges produce large diameter deep penetrations and by coupling to the rock concussively fracture the formation in the vicinity increasing permeability in the rock or strata. Shock fracturing (SF) is far more efficient than hydraulic fracturing (HF), SF fractures radially across all strata and leaves no part of the volume addressed un-permeated. The objective of the system is to efficiently increase permeability of the formation by directionally controlled concussive shattering of the rock around the epicenter of the detonation of the explosive charge deposited in the formation.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2017Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Innovative Defense, LLCInventors: Nicholas Collier, David Shawn Flatt

Patent number: 9612093Abstract: This invention is a unique arrangement of shaped charge devices in an array to produce a patterned or arranged explosive pattern in a target area. The Axilinear design, in a plural array configuration, solves the limitations of a smooth walled circular linear liner by having opposing corrugations or flutes that have sufficient curvature to converge the liner material so as to obtain ductile Munroe jetting, longer jets, and higher velocities. The individual shaped explosive devices have a liner that produces a single combination jet consisting of a forward rod portion and rearward flattened spade shaped portion, this jet has a velocity gradient form tip to tail. This Axilinear device will produce a combination jet, consisting of a rod forward portion, followed by and connected to a planar symmetric wide spade shaped rear portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2016Date of Patent: April 4, 2017Assignee: Innovative Defense, LLCInventors: Nicholas Collier, David Shawn Flatt

Patent number: 7762934Abstract: The invention is a hydraulic cylinder for use in exercise machines to deliver a controllable fast acting force. The invention uses a hydraulic cylinder with features that allow high acceleration rates, rapid changes of force level and direction, and positive force limitation. In the preferred embodiment, the hydraulic cylinder is composed of a rodless, hydraulic cylinder coupled to a cable and pulley system. A water source delivers water to generate a force against an inner bi-directionally moving piston to generate a regulated movement and force. The ends of the rodless hydraulic cylinder are sealed by both a water control spool valve and a controllable poppet style pressure relief valve. The water control spool valves adjustably permits water to enter and exit the hydraulic cylinder to regulate the direction and speed of movement of the piston. The pressure relief valve controls the desired maximum pressure and corresponding forces exerted on cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2005Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: FOI Group, LLCInventors: David Murray Munson, Jr., David Shawn Flatt
