Abstract: A centralized memory allocation system utilizes write pointer drift correction. The memory stores data units. The memory controller receives a write request associated with a data unit and stores the data unit in the memory. The memory controller also transmits a reply that includes an address where the data unit is stored. The control logic receives the reply and determines whether the address in the reply differs from an address included in replies associated with other memory controllers by a given address range. When this occurs, the control logic performs a corrective action to bring an address associated with the memory controller back within a defined range.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for securing data on a removable memory device, which is removably coupled to and accessible by a computing apparatus, are disclosed. Upon an attempt by a user to access the removable memory device, a biometric key is recovered by a biometric key interface device. This biometric key is used to authenticate an identity of the user. Upon the authentication, where the user identity corresponds to authorized access to the memory device, the access is enabled. Upon the authentication where the user identity does not correspond to authorized access to the memory device, the access is prohibited.

Abstract: A modularly expandable data storage device receptacle includes a housing configured to receive a memory device for providing additional data storage for a computer system, in which the housing is external to the computer system. A first connector is provided for receiving data signals from the computer system for accessing the memory device. A second connector is provided for passing data signals from the computer system to a connector of another modularly expandable data storage device receptacle.

Abstract: A hard drive caddy for protecting a hard disk drive (HDD) and connecting to a host system is described. The hard drive caddy includes a housing, which defines a compartment of an appropriate size for receiving the HDD. The housing also serves to protect the exposed components of said HDD. The hard drive caddy also includes a connector, within the housing, to interface with the HDD, and a second connector to interface with the host system. Abstract: A ring segment (100) used to form a packing ring (6). The segment comprises an arcuate shaped piece interfitting with similar pieces to form an effective seal both between adjacent stages of a turbine (1), and an end stage (2) of the turbine and the atmosphere. Each ring segment has a step (14, 15) formed at each end of the segment for interfacing the segment with an adjacent ring segment. The steps are formed on opposite sides of the ring segment and allow adjacent segments to readily interface with each other because an oversize of resulting butt gap (16) is formed between them. This eliminates rework of the segments to assemble the ring, insures a quality seal is affected, and reduces the time the turbine is off-line.
