Abstract: A method of recording data in a data storage medium affixed to a document, the document having a document ID printed thereon and the data storage medium having the document ID stored therein, the method comprising capturing data written onto the document by means of a digital pen, the digital pen having an imaging system, determining, by means of the imaging system of the digital pen, the document ID printed on the document; comparing the document ID determined by the digital pen with the document ID stored in the data storage medium and on if there is a match transferring the captured data from the digital pen to the data storage medium.

Abstract: A print has a substrate and a plurality of memory tags coupled to the substrate. The print is an index print including a plurality of images and a memory tag is associated with each image for storage of data relating to that image. A print medium suitable for forming such a print has a substrate with a printable surface and a plurality of memory tags coupled thereto at locations spaced apart over the area of the substrate. Alternatively, memory tags may be applied to a printed print medium. Methods of providing printed images with associated stored data are described.

Abstract: The reading of data from a memory tag to another device, using a memory tag reader, is described. The other device has an active portion which can detect the presence and position of the memory tag reader when brought adjacent to it. The memory tag reader is brought adjacent to the memory tag and data uploaded into the memory tag reader. The memory tag reader is moved adjacent to the active portion of the other device into a position which identifies the location to which the data is to be transferred. The data is then downloaded into that location in the other device. A similar process is described for downloading data from the other device to the memory tag. Apparatus appropriate to carry out each stage of these processes is described.

Abstract: A digital pen and paper system comprising a digital pen adapted to acquire disposition data representing a position and orientation of the pen relative to a portion of a carrier using a position-determining pattern on the carrier, the pen comprising a display operable to present to a user of the system display data representing at least one character for transcription by the user, the or each character transformed to appear to the user as if it is printed on the carrier, and a method for effecting transcription of information using such a system.

Abstract: A method of processing image data representing a plurality of images, the method includes processing the image data for respective ones of the images in order to generate allocation data for each image, and on the basis of the allocation data, allocating an image a position in a template, the template includes a plurality of image windows, each window representing a template position; and on the basis of user input, generating selection data representing a user selected allocated image, and for an unselected allocated image, replacing that image with another image from the plurality of images.

Abstract: A method of updating software on an appliance that includes an interrogator for interrogating memory tags includes releasably attaching a memory tag to the appliance, updating the software from the memory tag, and removing the tag from the appliance. The update software can be supplied on a memory tag attached to a carrier having information thereon relating to the update software.

Abstract: A method of updating a memory of a device with data stored in a memory of a tag, the tag associated with a business or calling card, the method comprising writing data read from the tag memory to the device memory, and writing data to the tag memory.

Abstract: A memory tag is powered by and addressable via a radio frequency wireless link to read data from a memory. The memory tag is addressable by a reader. The memory holds data and interface configuration information relating to the operation of an interface device. This interface configuration information comprising at least one status item and an item type associated with the, or each, status item.
