Abstract: An approach is disclosed that receives, at a computer system, a set of biometric data readings pertaining to a user of the system. The biometric data readings are received from biometric sensors that are near the user. After receiving the biometric readings, an audible notification is transmitted to the user. Subsequently, a second set of biometric data readings pertaining to the user from the biometric sensors that are proximate to the user. The first and second sets of biometric data readings are compared with the comparison resulting in a confidence level that the user heard the transmitted audible notification. The audible notification is retransmitted in response to the confidence level being below a threshold not retransmitted in response to the confidence level meeting the threshold indicating that the user heard the first transmission.

Abstract: Systems and method for interfacing with a client computing system to receive return authorization data associated with the client computing system, determine linked transaction records based on the return authorization data, nominate a group of linked transaction records based on client-specific thresholds indicative of return abuses or frauds, and generate and transmit recommended actions to the client computing system based on the nominated group of linked transaction records are described.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically manufacturing a computer. An order is received from a customer. A manufacturing plant assembles together the hardware and software components from stores specified by the order, and loads the software packages onto the computer. A Web page is provided for the customer to specify any software modifications required. Those modifications are recorded as auto-modification files. The auto-modification files and the order details are checked against each other and the manufacturer's current capabilities for consistency by a validation unit. Each auto-modification file in turn is called by the manufacturing control unit, which determines the configuration data corresponding thereto and enters that configuration data into the computer as the software packages are being loaded.

Abstract: A return coupon holder is described for holding a return coupon issued in a store in conjunction with a customer's merchandise return transaction. The return coupon holder is preferably sized large enough to discourage the customer from stowing the coupon away, such as in a handbag. Additionally, holders may be of different types that visually or electronically convey information about a category associated with the customer's return transaction. Thus, salespersons may accordingly provide appropriate customer service to the customer. The holder categories may indicate an approximate dollar value of the return transaction, a type of merchandise returned, a return payment method, an assessment of the profitability of the customer, an assessment of the risk of fraud associated with the return transaction, and the like. A computer decision system may select holder type. Some embodiments of the coupon holder are fitted with a device that allow tracing of the customer's movements while still in the store.

Abstract: A web crawling engine is configured to mine auction web sites for auction market data. On-line auction market data are aggregated for use in determining how to best list an item for sale through an on-line auction. The market data include listing options (e.g., duration, opening bid) as well as data descriptive of the auction's progress (e.g., current bid). Auction market data can also be actively accumulated by actively listing items at auction, varying the listing options, and monitoring the same auctions. Data is analyzed to identify correlations between item listing options and desirable auction results, such as closing bid price. A multivariable curve fitting is performed based upon the accumulated data to create a function that yields auction revenue as a function of listing options. A set of options that corresponds to the maxima of this function is identified as an optimal set of listing options for a product.
