  • Publication number: 20250135724
Abstract: A method of operating a laser additive manufacturing machine includes manufacturing at least one first fluid-flow coupon, that includes a plate defining a plurality of holes, at a corresponding beam offset value of the laser additive manufacturing machine. The method further includes disposing the at least one first fluid-flow coupon in a testing rig, directing a fluid flow towards the at least one first fluid-flow coupon, measuring a fluid flow rate through the at least one first fluid-flow coupon, determining a calibration curve by correlating a beam offset of the laser additive manufacturing machine with a flow parameter based on the fluid flow rate through the at least one first fluid-flow coupon and the corresponding beam offset value, determining a target beam offset value corresponding to a target flow value of the flow parameter, and calibrating and operating the laser additive manufacturing machine using the target beam offset value.

  • Patent number: 10596762
Abstract: An example system may include a computing device and an additive manufacturing tool. The computing device may define a digital representation of an inclined channel at least partially within a component, including an angle ? based on a formula ?=2 tan?1 [tan(?/2)/sin(?)]. The inclined channel may define a longitudinal axis inclined at the angle ? relative to a build direction, and may include a gabled roof configured to collapse into an arched roof. The angle ? is a predetermined interior angle of the gabled roof measured in a plane substantially parallel to the build direction. The angle ? is an interior angle of the gabled roof in a plane substantially normal to the inclined longitudinal axis. The computing device may control, based on the digital representation, the additive manufacturing tool to deposit a material along the build direction to fabricate the component including the inclined channel.

  • Publication number: 20190321887
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to techniques for stress relief in additive layer manufacturing (ALM). Example embodiments include a method for additive layer manufacturing of a metallic component, comprising the steps of: providing a substrate (20); depositing a first layer (22) of material on the substrate (20); depositing a plurality of second layers of material on the first layer (22) to form the metallic component (21), wherein the first layer (22) forms a stress relieving layer between the plurality of second layers and the substrate (20), the stress relieving layer having a lower shear stiffness compared to the metallic component (21).

  • Publication number: 20190176397
Abstract: Method of processing a layer of material in layer-by-layer additive manufacturing process is provided, wherein successive layers of flowable material are formed and a laser beam is scanned across a selected area of each layer to consolidate the material in said selected area. The method comprises providing a first raster path for a laser beam, the first raster path having a defined spacing between successive passes, and providing at least one further raster path for a laser beam, wherein the or each further raster path has the same defined spacing between successive passes as the first raster path and is offset from the first raster path in the direction of said defined spacing by a distance that is less than said defined spacing, such that the laser beam irradiates the entire selected area in a single pass over the first path and the or each further path.
