Patent number: 10684087Abstract: A handgun sear has a sear body extending between a proximal end portion to a distal end portion. The sear defines a first engagement surface adjacent the proximal end portion and a second engagement surface positioned distally of the first engagement surface. The sear can pivot about the distal end portion between a cocked position and a displaced position. The second engagement surface can be used to arrest forward movement of the striker in the event of an impulse that causes the striker to disengage from the first engagement surface. The sear may be incorporated into a fire control assembly of a semiautomatic handgun or other firearm.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2018Date of Patent: June 16, 2020Assignee: Sig Sauer, Inc.Inventors: Adrian Thomele, Sean P. Toner, Albert Richard Larochelle, Keith Andrew Cornish, Mark Kimball, Andrew Phillip Loriot, Matthew Thomas Barker, Derek A. Oaks, Tyler Robert Thibodeau, Joshua Robert Shoemaker, Eric Raymond Guillemette, Michael D. Couture, Zachary Messier, Jacob Thomas Shawley, David Steimke

Patent number: 10222151Abstract: A regulator that controls an amount of energy provided to an auto loader for rounds having different gun powder loads is provided. The regulator includes a chamber, and a piston in fluid communication with the chamber. The regulator may further include a throttling valve having a first position in which pressurized combustion gas from the gas port of a barrel of a firearm can flow into the chamber, and a second position in which pressurized combustion gas from the gas port of a barrel of a firearm cannot flow into the chamber. The throttling valve is configured to move from the first position to the second position when pressure in the chamber exceeds a threshold level. The regulator may include an expansion valve in fluid communication with the chamber and arranged to move from a first position to increase a volume of the chamber when pressure in the chamber exceeds a threshold level.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2017Date of Patent: March 5, 2019Assignee: Sig Sauer, Inc.Inventors: William C. Daley, Jr., David Michael Wilkes, Douglas Aubin, David Steimke

Patent number: 8919238Abstract: A weapon system includes a receiver and an operating group with a barrel extension arranged to axially translate relative to the receiver. In the firing condition, the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly are driven by the drive spring such that the round is guided into the chamber and the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly are locked to the barrel extension and a forward momentum of the op-rod assembly is imparted to the operating group and the round is fired. A portion of an impulse stops the forward momentum of the operating group. In the recoil condition, the operating group is driven rearward by the remaining portion of the impulse, the gas accelerator imparts additional rearward momentum to the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly and stops rearward momentum of the barrel and barrel extension, and the op-rod assembly and the bolt assembly are stopped by the drive spring.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2012Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: General Dynamics—OTS, Inc.Inventors: David Steimke, Glenn Rossier
