  • Publication number: 20070252036
Abstract: Systems and methods for braking aircraft are disclosed. These systems and methods can be employed on multi-main gear aircraft to reduce the radius with which the aircraft makes low speed, pivot turns. Further systems and methods can be used to correct the braking behavior of the aircraft during a turn when the actual or measured braking behavior of the aircraft deviates from the commanded turning behavior. For example, one system includes a controller operatively coupleable amongst a leftmost landing gear, a rightmost landing gear, and an intermediate landing gear of an aircraft. The controller can be configured to direct the application of brakes on wheels of the leftmost landing gear during a left turn, and direct the release of brakes on all wheels of the intermediate landing gear during the left turn.

  • Patent number: 7254169
Abstract: A loss-of-signal (LOS) condition is detected by sampling input data for a predetermined time period, comparing a magnitude of the sampled input data to a threshold signal strength level, and asserting a LOS indication if the number of samples that have signal strength less than the threshold signal strength level is less than a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20060285727
Abstract: A method and system for capturing a written signature is presented. A tip of an infrared transmitting pen transmits an infrared signal to infrared sensors that are aligned along two sides of a rectangular writing surface. As a person's signature is written with the infrared transmitting pen, the sensors capture the written signature.

  • Publication number: 20060092072
Abstract: A monitored area is provided multiple RFID tags placed at defined coordinates/locations throughout the extended area. These RFID tags respond to receipt of a RF signal by transmitting/broadcasting their unique identifier (ID) within the specific area in which the tag is located. A device, whose location within the monitored area is desired, is equipped with an RFID interrogating device, such as an RF transceiver, which periodically broadcasts RF interrogation signals. The multiple RFID tags are positioned at specific areas within the environment to allow the RF interrogating device to (1) receive the RFID signal and (2) utilized the received data to independently determine the device's location.

  • Publication number: 20060065721
Abstract: A system and method for providing an expandable, configurable and adaptable POS terminal having a common chassis in relation to a retailer's requirements without requiring a retailer to reconfigure or swap out the logic board of the POS terminal is provided. The POS terminal of the present invention includes a common chassis forming an interior compartment for housing the internal components of the POS terminal including a PC motherboard and riser cards having POS functionality. The footprint, appearance and connectivity of the POS terminal is also adaptable to reflect retailer requirements without the need to modify or exchange the logic board of the POS terminal. Such a system and method allows for improved in-field upgrades, improvements and extensions; automatic detection of configured technology via panel cards and riser cards; coupling and mixing of a plurality of connective technologies; and customization of unique connector configurations and external preferences for a specific retail environment.

  • Publication number: 20060031665
Abstract: A method, computer program product and system for storing or updating authentications, e.g., passwords, in a boot code image, i.e., binary executable boot code, stored within a Read Only Memory (ROM), e.g., flash ROM, of a terminal from a remote central site. An authentication may be stored in the boot code image in a terminal from a central site by creating a file comprising a boot code image storing the authentication at the central site and then storing the created file in ROM in the terminal. The file may be downloaded from a server at the central site to the terminal. An authentication in the boot code image in a terminal may be updated remotely from a central site by updating the file associated with the boot code image, i.e., updating the authentication, at the central site and then downloading the updated file to the terminal.

  • Patent number: 6799131
Abstract: An integrated circuit has a loss of signal (LOS) system for detecting a loss of signal condition for an input data stream according to a LOS threshold. The LOS threshold specifies a minimum signal magnitude indicating the loss of signal condition. The integrated circuit includes a sampling circuit to sample a LOS signal, which receives a sampling threshold specifying a signal magnitude for a sampled signal above which the sampling circuit samples the sampled signal as a first digital value and below which the sampling circuit samples the sampled signal as a second digital value. A digital control circuit coupled to an output of the sampling circuit generates a calibrated digital representation of the sampling threshold according to a plurality of samples of the LOS signal. The calibrated sampling threshold is then used during loss of signal evaluation.

  • Patent number: 6489803
Abstract: A loss of signal condition is evaluated for an input data stream according to a signal strength threshold level. The signal strength threshold level is determined according to a supplied loss of signal (LOS) threshold level. Two hysteresis modes are used to ensure the hysteresis at low LOS threshold levels is sufficient. The first mode uses hysteresis for the signal strength threshold level that is proportional to the LOS threshold level when the LOS threshold level is above a predetermined level. The second mode employs fixed hysteresis for the signal strength threshold level when the LOS threshold level is below the predetermined level. The hysteresis provides a signal strength threshold level that has a greater magnitude on deassertion of a loss of signal indication than on assertion of the loss of signal indication.
