  • Patent number: 11536745
Abstract: A method for detecting electric meter installation issues includes: determining an initial orientation of an electric meter based on initial acceleration measurements from an accelerometer positioned in the electric meter. Subsequent acceleration measurements from the accelerometer may be continuously monitoring, and a subsequent orientation of the electric meter may be determined based on the subsequent acceleration measurements. A difference between the initial orientation and the subsequent orientation based on the initial acceleration measurements and the subsequent acceleration measurements may be determined and compared to a threshold value. Based on the difference exceeding the threshold value, a notification of a change in orientation of the electric meter may be generated to a head-end system.

Abstract: A multi-port meter system supports islanding operations at a premises. A multi-port meter includes at least a load port, a grid port, an auxiliary port, and at least two switches, a grid switch and an auxiliary switch. The grid port connects the multi-port meter to the grid and the grid switch allows the multi-port meter to control the meter's connection to the grid. The auxiliary port connects the multi-port meter to an inverter, which is connected to a distributed energy resource device, and the auxiliary switch allows the multi-port meter to control the inverter's connection to the load associated with the premises and the grid. The transition to islanding mode may be based on determinations made at the meter, the inverter, a remote device, or by a user.

  • Patent number: 11175322
Abstract: Certain aspects and features include a system and method for energy measurement in electric meter systems. In an example, an electric meter receives an Alternating Current (A/C) signal. The electric meter includes a current measurement device that is configured to obtain a current measurement of a current of the A/C signal. The current measurement includes a fundamental frequency component and a noise component. The electric meter receives a current measurement signal from the current measurement device and filters the noise component from the current measurement, thereby creating a filtered current measurement signal. When the filtered current measurement signal is greater than a starting current threshold, the electric meter calculates an energy consumption measurement.

  • Patent number: 10816578
Abstract: An electrical energy meter includes an A/D converter and a processing circuit. The A/D converter is configured to generate digital samples of voltage and current waveforms in a polyphase electrical system. The processing circuit is operably coupled to receive the digital samples from the A/D converter and to integrate over time at least one digital sample multiple times to produce a filtered value from which harmonic distortion has been removed, identify a fundamental frequency only electrical parameter measurement for the polyphase electrical system with reference to the filtered value, and store the identified fundamental frequency only electrical parameter measurement in a data store.
