Patent number: 6250943Abstract: A connector assembly is provided which includes a connector housing, at least one resilient lever pivotally attached relative to the connector housing, and a slider slidably attached to each lever. The connector housing is slidably engagable with and disengagable from a mating connector assembly in an engaged and disengaged mode, respectively. Each lever engages and disengages the mating connector assembly in such engaged and disengaged mode. The slider is movable to a first position to prevent disengagement of the lever from the mating connector assembly in a locked mode, and to a second position to allow disengaging the lever from the mating connector assembly in an unlocked mode.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Osram Sylvania Inc.Inventors: Anthony E. Castle, David T. Humphrey

Patent number: 6053751Abstract: The electrical connector assembly includes a female connector portion which is mountable to a first printed circuit board, such as a motherboard, and a male connector portion which is mechanically and electrically connected to a second printed circuit board, such as a daughterboard. The female connector portion includes a plurality of signal contacts arranged in two rows having a ground terminal, or conductive elastomer, positioned between the rows of signal contacts. The male connector portion preferably includes a flexible circuit having a solid groundplane separated by an dielectric insulator from an electrical trace thereon. The distance separating the groundplane from the trace and the width of the trace controls a characteristic impedance of the flexible circuit for matching to specific circuit requirements of the daughterboard and motherboard.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1999Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Thomas & Betts CorporationInventor: David T. Humphrey

Patent number: 6007379Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes an insulative housing having an interconnection end, an opposed contact receiving end and at least one contact member supported within the housing. The contact member is insertably positioned in the housing through said contact receiving end. The electrical connector assembly further includes a conductive shield which is positioned in partial circumscribing relation about the housing. The shield includes at least one cooperating interlocking engagement members located on the insulative housing and shield to positively latch the shield to the housing. The positively latched shield prevents the shield from lifting off the housing during interconnection and disconnection with the mating connector and provides greater alignment of the shield with respect to the housing. The shield is preferably a one-piece construction thus providing enhanced EMI shield protection.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventors: Daniel K. Michaelis, David T. Humphrey

Patent number: 5176538Abstract: A connector module is provided which has a plurality of signal contacts and has a ground shield with spring finger ground contacts as an integral part of the shield. This module provides a high fidelity electrical path for electrical signals between flexible signal cable and a mating connector half utilizing a simple array of pins as the signal conducting means. A plurality of modules may be used in one assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1991Date of Patent: January 5, 1993Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: George A. Hansell, III, David T. Patent number: 4820190Abstract: An electrical component mounting and connection assembly for direct connection to a connecting wire cable includes a base member having a cavity and wire-receiving slots into which the electrical leads of a sensor, such as a magnetically actuated reed switch, and the wires of the connecting cable are positioned. A cooperating insert member includes insulation displacing contacts and latching structures to physically latch the insert member and base member together to allow the insulation displacing contacts to establish electrical contact with the slot-retained wire conductors. The circuit wires follow a path to an exterior surface of the assembly to allow direct electrical probing of the wire ends to test the circuit components and their connections. In the preferred embodiment, the base member and insert define cooperating `snap` together parts that allow time and cost efficient connection of the sensor device assemblies at the point of installation.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1987Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: E. I. Du Pont De Nemours and CompanyInventor: David T. Humphrey
