  • Patent number: 4780947
Abstract: A double wall tank for the storage of liquids is manufactured from a rigid single wall inner tank by applying to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the inner tank a hardenable synthetic resin spacer material and forming in the spacer material one or more channels that provide for substantially free passage of liquids through the channels. A substantially imperforate film is stretched across the spacer material and over the one or more channels to separate the inner tank and the spacer material from subsequently applied sheathing material. A substantially rigid outer sheathing material that is substantially liquid-tight is applied over the inner tank exterior and the spacer material and the film overlying the spacer material such that the sheath is spaced from at least a portion of the inner tank exterior surface so as to provide a rigid double wall tank.

  • Patent number: 4780946
Abstract: A double wall tank for the storage of liquids is manufactured from a rigid single wall inner tank by applying to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the inner tank a plurality of spaced apart, generally parallel beads of a hardenable, viscous liquid synthetic resin spacer material to form, between adjacent beads, one or more channels that provide for substantially free passage of liquids through the channels. A substantially imperforate film is stretched across the beads and over the one or more channels to separate the inner tank and the beads from subsequently applied sheathing material. A substantially rigid outer sheathing material that is substantially liquid-tight is applied over the inner tank exterior and the beads and the film overlying the beads such that the sheath is spaced from at least a portion of the inner tank exterior surface so as to provide a rigid double wall tank.

  • Patent number: 4744137
Abstract: A method is described for manufacturing a rigid double wall tank from a rigid single wall cylindrical inner tank, in which a substantially rigid sheath is formed over a male mold which has a configuration generally similar to that of the inner tank and provides for molding of projections on the inner surface of such cylindrical sheath portion. The cylindrical sheath portion is then removed from the mold and introduced over the inner tank with the projections extending from the cylindrical inner surface of the sheath to the outer surface of the inner tank, and sheath end portions are applied to the axial extremities of that cylindrical sheath portion, forming a complete sheath enclosing the inner tank.
