  • Patent number: 4761354
Abstract: A universal, one-piece-molded, protective cap adapted to fit both small and large diameter battery terminal posts. The cap includes a body portion having an accordion pleated wall which is molded to tightly fit small diameter terminals but expandable to fit large diameter terminal posts. Restraining means at both ends of the body help maintain constrictive engagement of the post by the cap. Openings at both ends of the pleats permit substantially uninhibited flexure of the pleats to effect expansion of the body.

  • Patent number: 4486516
Abstract: A low silhouette horizontal-type venting system for an electric storage battery including an electrolyte drainage aperture(s) at one end of the system, an exhaust port at the other end of the system and an electrolyte trapping and refluxing chamber between the aperture(s) and port wherein the chamber is divided into an antechamber and a sump chamber having oppositely sloping floors leading downwardly to the drainage aperture. A narrow electrolyte upflow restricting slot(s) communicates the antechamber with the sump chamber. Baffles are provided in the sump chamber to inhibit electrolyte movement therethrough. Narrow channels are provided at the slot(s) and drainage aperture(s) for capillarily refluxing electrolyte back to the sump and cell, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4409302
Abstract: A venting system for an electric storage battery including an electrolyte trapping chamber having a floor sloping toward a venting/drainage aperture at the low point of the floor and a drip tab beneath the rim of the aperture to enhance electrolyte drainage from the chamber floor. A surrounding skirt and supplemental baffle reduce electrolyte invasion of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 4403019
Abstract: Venting system for an electric storage battery having an electrolyte drainage aperture at the low point in the sloping floor of an electrolyte trapping chamber and including an integrally molded shielding enclosure depending beneath the aperture. The enclosure is defined in part by a flap-like closure wall which is resiliently rooted to the underside of the floor and depends therefrom at such an angle as to underlie the aperture. The resiliently rooted wall permits the wall to be molded beneath the aperture yet deflect out of the way and return (i.e., due to plastic memory) when the mold core is withdrawn.
