  • Patent number: 9181489
Abstract: Exemplary techniques disclosed provide a heat transfer element adapted for use in a rotary furnace for torrefaction and particle size reduction of biomass material. The heat transfer element is made up of a rounded object having a specific gravity substantially higher than a specific gravity of the biomass material to be torrefied, a heat capacity sufficient for the heat transfer elements in the rotary furnace to heat the biomass material to be torrefied, and a hardness sufficient for the heat transfer element to serve as grinding media to reduce the particle size of the biomass material to be torrefied. The heat transfer element has one or more surface features pre-formed in a surface of the rounded object. The surface features are configured to increase traction between the heat transfer elements and the biomass material to be torrefied.

  • Patent number: 8512627
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the production of a poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) asymmetric hollow fiber membrane. The invention comprises preparing a dope solution of PVDF-HFP with an additive of lithium chloride or glycerol dissolved in a solvent such as N-methylpyrollidone (NMP). The dope solution is spun to form a PVDF-HFP asymmetric hollow fiber membrane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 4, 2009
Date of Patent: August 20, 2013
    Assignee: Nanyang Technological University

  • Patent number: 7790477
Abstract: Contaminants from surfaces of temperature sensitive substrates, such as glass substrates are removed by exposing the surfaces to a hydrogen Surface-mixed diffusion flame for a predetermined duration of time. The predetermined duration of time being insufficient to heat up the surfaces substantially thereby causing damage to the temperature sensitive substrates.

  • Patent number: 7575715
Abstract: A method for sterilizing medical devices, comprising the steps: producing a plurality of hydrogen surface-mixed diffusion flame; exposing the plurality of hydrogen surface-mixed diffusion flame to the medical devices for a predetermined period of time; and exposing the medical devices to the plurality of hydrogen surface-mixed diffusion flame at a predetermined distance; wherein the hydrogen surface mixed diffusion flame further produces free radicals for further sterilizing of the medical devices.
