  • Patent number: 7832675
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatic threading and winding of optical fiber onto various components in a fiber draw system, as well as methods and apparatus for conducting online tensile screening of optical fiber at high speeds. In a preferred embodiment, the fiber is tensile tested during fiber draw and wound directly onto a shipping spool to be shipped to a customer. The tensile stress can be imparted to the fiber during the draw process by feeding the fiber through a screener capstan, which works in conjunction with another capstan to impart the desired tensile stress to the fiber during the draw process.

  • Patent number: 7833169
Abstract: A device and method for collection of a urine sample is disclosed which comprises a channel, an opening in the channel, and a collector associated with the opening. The channel is formed so that urine can flow through it from a first end to a second end thereof. The opening is provided in the channel at a point between the first and the second ends thereof. The collector is associated with the opening in the channel to be able to receive urine therein. In one embodiment, a member can cover the opening to permit urine to pass through it after contact with urine. Specifically, the member may dissolve or otherwise permit urine to pass through the opening after a period of time to test a urine sample which is not from the initial flow of urine to avoid bacteria contamination.

  • Patent number: 7836495
Abstract: A proxy service receives requests from a remote caller to configure a main service. The proxy service authenticates the caller and validates the request. The proxy service then passes the request along to the main service if the caller can be authenticated and if the request can be validated. The proxy service runs at a non-privileged level, but when the proxy service passes the request to the main service, the proxy service impersonates the caller so that the request to the main service is made at the original caller's level of privilege. The main service can block all inbound network traffic, since network requests to configure the main service are received by the proxy, which is a local object from the perspective of the main service. Additionally, the proxy can block inbound traffic other than a certain class of requests (e.g., Remote Procedure Calls).

  • Patent number: 7833495
Abstract: An emissions treatment device includes a substrate having multiple parallel channels/layers of a porous material, the channels/layers including a first group of channels/layers at least partially open along their length from an upstream end to a downstream end, and a second group of channels/layers that are at least partially open at the downstream end and may be substantially blocked at an upstream end, the parallel channels having complementary geometries and/or sizes. Coated metallic fibers or fleece facilitates flow of exhaust through walls of the first group into the second group of channels. Flow diverters or scoops may be formed in the walls between the first and second groups of channels to divert exhaust flow from the first group to the second group of channels. Catalyzed mesh sheets may be supported by perforated stainless steel sheets containing small passages and/or scoops to complement the useful wallflow by structure and flow design.

  • Patent number: 7834592
Abstract: A circuit includes a pulse transformer having primary and secondary windings. An oscillating waveform is applied to the primary winding to induce an oscillating waveform at the secondary winding. A transistor in series with a first resistor is coupled between the secondary winding and the ground. An R-C network formed by a second and a third resistor and a capacitor is coupled to a base junction of the transistor. The R-C network causes a slow, tapered linear pinch off of the transistor's conductance to enable the circuit to output a triangular waveform, which is characterized by a relatively short linear rise time followed by a substantially long linear fall time. The R-C network is coupled to the secondary winding via a first and a second diode, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7835747
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for sending a message to a calling phone when a called phone aborts an incoming call request. A mobile unit receives a call request from a calling phone. The communication network determines that the mobile unit has aborted the call request during ringing. For example, the mobile unit may abort the call request by pressing a predetermined key, such as the <END> key, on the mobile unit. The communication network alerts the calling phone that the mobile unit aborted the call request during ringing. The network can play a message to the calling phone that the mobile unit has aborted the call request during ringing, and the message can include additional information, such as the expected length of time that the mobile unit will be unavailable or other predetermined messages.
