  • Publication number: 20180283315
Abstract: A combustion system for an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder having a cylinder wall defining a bore, a piston disposed inside the bore, a combustion chamber delimited by a cylinder head, the cylinder wall, and the piston. The piston includes a piston bowl defining a floor portion, and at least one scooped recess extending radially outwardly from a periphery of the piston bowl. The internal combustion engine further includes a fuel injector configured to inject fuel into the combustion chamber as a plurality of fuel jets at a main injection timing such that each fuel jet contacts the floor portion of the piston bowl and follows a profile of the piston bowl and enter the at least one scooped recess. Furthermore, at least one of the plurality of is deflected by the at least one scooped recess away from the cylinder wall.

  • Publication number: 20180021703
Abstract: A seal arrangement for joining a first component to a second component is disclosed. The seal arrangement may have a first sealing surface formed as an integral portion of the first component, and a second sealing surface formed as an integral portion of the second component and configured to directly engage the first sealing surface. The seal arrangement may also have an energizer engaged with the first sealing surface and configured to inhibit movement of the first sealing surface away from the second sealing surface during a temperature drop.

  • Patent number: 9714624
Abstract: An engine system is disclosed. The engine system may have an engine including at least one cylinder. Further, the engine system may have a nozzle configured to selectively inject gaseous fuel into the at least one cylinder of the engine. The engine system may also have an intake port configured to direct air for combustion to the at least one cylinder. In addition, the engine system may have exhaust valves associated with the at least one cylinder. The exhaust valves may be configured to direct exhaust from the cylinder to an atmosphere. The exhaust valves may also be configured to close at different times.

  • Publication number: 20140156169
Abstract: A control system for fuel delivery systems associated with cylinders of a multi-cylinder engine is provided. The control system includes a detector, a processor, and an actuator. The detector is configured to sense a signal to change from a compression ignited fuel to a spark ignited fuel in a pre-determined number of cylinders. The processor is configured to receive the signal from the detector and generate one or more actuation signals. The controller is configured to receive the actuation signals and tandemly control the fuel delivery systems associated with the pre-determined cylinders based on the actuation signals.

  • Publication number: 20120042639
Abstract: A power system is provided having a first power source including at least one engine configured to combust a first air/fuel mixture and produce a first exhaust stream. The fuel of the first air/fuel mixture may be liquefied petroleum gas. The system also has a first exhaust passageway fluidly connected to the first power source and configured to receive the first exhaust stream. In addition, the system has a second power source including at least one engine configured to combust a second fuel/air mixture and produce a second exhaust stream. Furthermore, the system has a second exhaust passageway fluidly connected to the second power source and configured to receive the second exhaust stream.

  • Publication number: 20090320814
Abstract: A system is disclosed for controlling a combustion engine. The system includes a measurement apparatus disposed external to a combustion chamber of the engine. A device is configured to selectively direct an amount of air and fuel to the measurement apparatus. An ignition source is configured to ignite the air and fuel to produce a flame propagating within the measurement apparatus. A sensor is configured to measure at least one parameter associated with the flame propagating within the measurement apparatus. A controller is configured to determine a flame speed within the measurement apparatus based on the at least one measured parameter, and to control an operating flame speed in the engine by managing an air/fuel ratio of the engine based on the determined flame speed.
