  • Patent number: 4744354
Abstract: An improved body restraint comprising a vest body having a front panel and a pair of separable back panels. A first strap is connected to the lower edge of each back panel and extends transversely across the vest body and is received within a loop or slot in the other back panel. The ends of the first straps are adapted to be attached to an outside object, such as the side rails of a bed. Second straps are connected to the vest body at locations beneath each arm opening, and each second strap extends diagonally across the vest body and is adapted to be attached to the head rail of the bed. The body restraint will securely restrain a patient and yet the diagonally extending straps permit the patient to move from side-to-side without danger of release. During movement of the patient, tension is concentrated under the arms to eliminate any possibility of stress being concentrated on the neck of the patient.

  • Patent number: 4610675
Abstract: A device for collecting fluid discharged from female organs. The device includes a flexible pad having an elongated central opening to register with the female pudendum. Ridges are formed on the inner surface of the pad, on either side of the opening, and are adapted to exert pressure on the area bordering the labia majora to urge the labia to an open condition. Corresponding edges of the ridges at one end of the pad are spaced apart to provide a gap to receive the clitoris, while corresponding ends of the ridges at the opposite end of the pad are connected together at a junction which is adapted to engage the navicular fossa. In one form of the invention, in which the device is utilized to collect urine, a bag or receptacle is connected to the opening in the pad and the lower end of the receptacle defines an outlet that is connected through a conduit to a vacuum pump.

  • Patent number: 4488544
Abstract: A wrap around patient restraint includes a unitary vest body having a front panel and a pair of separable back panels having vertical edge portions which are normally adapted to overlap. The vest body also has a lower horizontal edge portion at approximately waist level. The inner and outer overlapping vertical edge portions of the back panels are respectively provided with attached reinforcing straps, with their attachment to the vest body terminating at the top of the panels adjacent the neck portion. The outer strap extends beyond the attachment terminus to form a first elongated free end for attachment to a bed or the back of a wheelchair. A horizontal slot is disposed in the vest body above the terminus of the outer strap attachment. The inner strap also extends beyond its attachment terminus to form a second elongated free end which passes outwardly through the horizontal slot. The lower horizontal edge portion of the vest body is provided with an attached waist encircling reinforcing strap.
