  • Patent number: 11679689
Abstract: A method for operating one or more processors to control access of a plurality of pieces of rechargeable electrical equipment, optionally including one or more electric vehicles, to one or more charging resources. An access queue is maintained for each of the charging resources. Each piece of equipment is assigned a position in an access queue when it is determined to have a state of charge (SOC) less than the first level. Each access queue is updated based on charger information such as its availability. A piece of equipment is assigned access to a charging resource when its queue position reaches a first priority position and a charging resource is available. For each piece of equipment assigned access to a charging resource, an instruction to end access to the charging resource is issued when an elapsed charging time period is equal to or greater than a break time or the SOC is greater than a second level representative of an operational charge.

  • Patent number: 10784354
Abstract: A light-emitting device may comprise a set of layers comprising a substrate layer, and a set of epitaxial layers deposited on the substrate layer. The set of epitaxial layers may include a strained layer. The strained layer may include a set of active zones to be used to generate optical gain. The light-emitting device may comprise a set of trenches etched into a subset of the set of layers of the light-emitting device. The set of trenches may prevent a set of defects or dislocations in a wafer from which the light-emitting device was formed from propagating into the set of active zones.

  • Patent number: 10469482
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include encrypted data retrieval systems and methods to provide access to encrypted data. In one of such embodiments, the method includes receiving a request to access encrypted data. The method also includes analyzing the request to determine a credential of a source electronic device seeking to access the encrypted data. The method further includes determining, based on the credential of the source electronic device, a category of the request. In response to determining the category of the request, the method further includes selecting additional credentials with which to authenticate the request. The method further includes providing an indication of the credentials to at least one operator, wherein the at least one operator is authorized to enter the additional credentials to release the encrypted data. In response to receiving the additional credentials, the method further includes transmitting the encrypted data to the source electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8948222
Abstract: A light source including a laser diode, and a method of operating a light source including a laser diode are disclosed. A driving current of the laser diode is dithered to cause a near-field light intensity distribution at an end facet to be perturbed, thereby reducing a time-averaged local intensity of the laser light at the end facet of the laser diode. The reduced time-averaged intensity reduces a possibility of a damage of the end facet.

  • Patent number: 7948006
Abstract: A photodetector with an improved electrostatic discharge damage threshold is disclosed, suitable for applications in telecommunication systems operating at elevated data rates. The photodetector may be a PIN or an APD fabricated in the InP compound semiconductor system. The increased ESD damage threshold is achieved by reducing the ESD induced current density in the photodetector by a suitable widening of the contact at a critical location, increasing the series resistance and promoting lateral current spreading by means of a current spreading layer.

  • Patent number: 7834379
Abstract: The invention relates to an avalanche photodiode having enhanced gain uniformity enabled by a tailored diffused p-n junction profile. The tailoring is achieved by a two stage doping process incorporating a solid source diffusion in combination with conventional gas source diffusion. The solid source diffusion material is selected for its solubility to the dopant compared to the solubility of the multiplication layer to dopant. The solid source has a diameter between the first and second diffusion windows. Thus, there are three distinct diffusion regions during the second diffusion. The dopant in the multiplication layer at the edge region, the dopant from the solid source material with a relatively higher dopant concentration (limited by the solubility of the dopant in the solid source material) at the intermediate region, and the central region exposed to an infinite diffusion source from the solid source material as it is continually charged with new dopant from the external gas source.

  • Patent number: 6055470
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hot shutdown monitor for an internal combustion engine, in which the engine control module (ECM) obtains engine operating information from various sensors and calculates an instantaneous load factor of the engine based upon various factors such as engine speed, engine fueling, exhaust manifold temperature, oil temperature, etc. This instantaneous load factor is preferably heavily filtered with the output of the filter determining a cumulative weighted load factor that represents a condition of the engine (i.e. the heating and cooling of the engine components). The present invention monitors for a shutdown request both from the operator (i.e. ignition keyoff or from other ECM control algorithms (i.e. engine protection). When an engine shutdown is detected, the weighted load factor is compared to a predetermined threshold. If the threshold is exceeded, a fault indicator is set within the ECM and the current engine data is captured for later retrieval.

  • Patent number: 4774849
Abstract: A steering gear mechanism includes a housing and a worm gear having an input portion. The worm gear is supported for rotation in the housing. A sector gear has teeth in meshing engagement with teeth formed on the worm gear. The sector gear has an output portion. A circumferentially expandable spring pin supports the sector gear for pivotal movement relative to the housing and biases the sector gear into meshing engagement with the worm gear to compensate for wear of the gears. The housing has means for supporting the spring pin.
