Abstract: Methods and apparatus for data transfer according to various aspects of the present invention operate in conjunction with a computer-readable storage medium associated with an account identifier. The storage medium may store a set of computer-executable instructions configured to allow a computer to: provide an account identifier for a data transfer account to a remote system and receive an authorization for data transfer from the remote system. The data transfer account may be deactivated except in response to an activation code. The data transfer system may further include an identification element connected to the storage device and configured to provide the activation code to the remote system at a purchase time of the storage medium.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for packaging include a backing, a film, an item, and an activation card. The film may be coupled to the backing such that the couple between the film and the backing is formed by evacuation of material along the interface between the film and the backing. The item may be disposed between the film and the backing. In addition, the item may he deactivated except in response to a verification signal from a database. The activation card may be coupled to the hacking. Further, the activation card may comprise a set of instructions for transmission of the verification signal.
