  • Patent number: 11931149
Abstract: Described herein is a method of using functional MRI (fMRI) for determining brain activation patterns for a group of subjects in response to different odor-elicited feelings (i.e., conscious emotions). A method for preparing a perfume by using the method of the present invention and a consumer product including said perfume are also described herein.

  • Publication number: 20060113361
Abstract: The invention provides a packaged article having an improved wrapper for consumer goods comprises a film packaging material provided with a tear tape and at least one barrier strip adjacent to the tear tape. In use, the barrier strip creates a predictable, predefined path for the tear tape upon opening of the wrapper. It is particularly advantageous if the barrier strip and tear tape are provided on opposite sides of the film packaging material. A pull tab and corresponding cut-out may be provided in the film packaging material at opposite ends of the tear tape.

  • Publication number: 20010052346
Abstract: A hopper is connected with a machine for manufacture of tobacco industry products including a tangential separator sequentially feeding an entry stock of the hopper. The distribution between portions of tobacco streams including a large proportion of short tobacco fibers and portions including a large proportion of long tobacco fibers of the tobacco stream set apart in advance in the entry stock is essentially longitudinal when the stream arrives on a transfer belt of the hopper. By imposing a change of direction on the tobacco stream as well as a reduction of speed of displacement of this stream, this longitudinal distribution is transformed into a transverse distribution. A spiked or barbed roller, placed at a right angle to this latter stream, homogenizes the distribution, making it possible for the distribution to be regular between short fibers and long fibers in the tobacco stream arriving through the chimney for the manufacture of the tobacco rod.

  • Patent number: 6227088
Abstract: An apparatus for the opening of paper bobbins and other rolls of material is provided. A flat blade is advanced from the side of a wound roll of material such that it intersects the roll over substantially its entire width. A cutting blade or other cutting mechanism then severs the layers of the roll which are outside the flat blade, and the flat blade protects the inside layers from being damaged. In preferred embodiments, a jet of air or other gas may be used to ease the insertion of the flat blade, or a gripping device which pinches the surface of the roll between opposed friction pads creates an arch in the surface of the roll through which the blade is inserted. The device is particularly suitable for use in cigarette making machines which require undamaged paper feeds.

  • Patent number: 6105478
Abstract: A device for preparing and opening a roll of a strip of supple material. A flat blade is provided and is inserted from one side of the roll to separate the top layer, which is to be cut, from the lower layers. When the top layer is cut, the cutting portion of the cutting blade comes to rest against the flat. A clamp holds the cut layer and a transferring device handle the cut top layer.

  • Patent number: 6009879
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a tobacco rod for cigarette manufacture, fitted with a suction-type rod conveyor equipped with a revolving, continuous, porous belt, to which vacuum is applied from the top and on whose underside tobacco shreds are conveyed along a tobacco channel. The apparatus has a pre-equalizer for purposes of equalizing the height of the tobacco rod being conveyed by removing a part of the tobacco rod. The apparatus further has a device that serves to compact the tobacco rod at regular intervals and further has an equalizer that equalizes the height of the tobacco rod after it that is compacted at regular intervals by removing additional tobacco from the tobacco rod. The pre-equalizer has a revolving blade which is positioned directly below the tobacco channel.

  • Patent number: 5221350
Abstract: A roll (30) of adhesive worked between two rollers (10, 12) of the gumming device is supplied by feed nozzles (34a, 34b) projecting fine streams of adhesive (35a, 35b) with monitored flow. In case of an increase in the measured viscosity of the adhesive or stopping of the machine on which the gumming device is used, a water-atomizing device (40) allows the viscosity to be reduced and prevents the adhesive from drying out. A dimension of the adhesive roll is monitored and controls regulation of the output of the adhesive-feeding nozzles. The gumming device thereby ensures proper gumming of a strip of paper (2).

  • Patent number: 5168882
Abstract: The device is made up of a cylindrical rotary disk (32), part of the cylindrical outside surface (32b) of which intercepts a surplus portion of the stream of tobacco and separates it from the main stream. The surplus portion is eliminated and recycled without damaging the tobacco fibers. The device is intended to be disposed before trimming and compression apparatus which prepares a rod of tobacco in order to regulate the thickness of the rod before segments thereof are compressed. Thus, each compressed segment will have the same density of tobacco.
